Good news for coffee lovers! ☕✨ You don't have to give up your morning cup entirely during pregnancy. Up to 200mg of caffeine per day is generally considered safe, which is about one 12 oz cup of coffee. Every pregnancy is different, so be sure to check with your healthcare provider for personalized guidance.

In those very first weeks, your baby is still adjusting to life outside the womb.

At one month old, development is still very early, but you may start to notice small changes like lifting their head briefly during tummy time, responding to sounds, following light or objects, and beginning to recognize familiar faces. Some babies may even offer their first little smiles!

It’s important to remember that every baby develops at their own pace, and these early milestones are simply a guide to help you understand what you might see during this stage.

Here at The Baby Academy, our classes are designed to support you through every stage, from newborn care and early milestones, plus guidance as you begin introducing solids ❤️

Because having the right information can help you feel more confident through each step of your baby’s development.

We'll go first: snacks. For the baby... and definitely not for us 😅🍪 What's always lurking in yours?

You’ve done the bath, the feed, the swaddle, the white noise… and they’re still WIDE awake 😅

Here’s the one thing that can make a big difference.

Watch for sleepy cues and respond quickly.

Yawning, rubbing eyes, staring off into space, or suddenly going quiet are all early signs your baby is ready for sleep. The window is short, so once you see them, start winding things down.

If you miss it, you can end up in overtired territory, where falling asleep actually gets harder. It sounds backwards, but the more tired a baby gets, the harder it is for them to switch off.

If you feel like you’re always missing it, try moving bedtime a little earlier. It can feel counterintuitive, but it often leads to better, longer stretches of sleep.

A simple, consistent wind down routine can also help more than you’d think. Bath, feed, dim lights, white noise, bed. Repeating the same steps each night helps signal to your baby that it’s time to sleep.

You’ve got this 🌙

Here’s your week-by-week guide to what your baby is actually doing during those first 6 weeks 👶

Week one is all about survival mode. Your baby is learning how to suck, digest, and regulate their body outside the womb, while their immune system begins to kick in.

Week two often brings a growth spurt. You may notice more frequent feeds, a fussier baby, and longer stretches of sleep as they adjust to everything new.

Week three is when you start seeing new strength. Brief head lifts, small turns, and little moments where they seem to follow movement around the room.

Week four becomes more interactive. Your baby starts focusing on faces, responding to your voice, and bringing their hands toward their mouth.

Week five is all about communication. Wriggles, cries, and movement start becoming their way of telling you exactly what they need.

Week six is the big milestone moment. That first real social smile appears. And those earlier “smiles”? Most likely just gas 😅

If you want to feel more confident through every stage of those early weeks, our free Baby-Care Class walks you through exactly what to expect and what to do ❤️

Here’s everything you need to know about DR ABC and what to do in an emergency ⬇️

In stressful moments, having a simple step-by-step approach can help you stay calmer and respond faster when your baby needs you most.

DR ABC stands for:

Danger: Check that the area is safe for you and your baby

Response: Gently tap and talk to your baby to see if they respond

Airway: Open the airway by gently tilting the head back

Breathing: Look, listen, and feel for signs of breathing

CPR: Begin chest compressions and rescue breaths if needed

Those first few minutes before emergency services arrive can be critical, and knowing what to do can help you feel more prepared and confident if the unexpected ever happens.
