Advocacy Alert 🚨
https://www.languagepolicy.org/take-action

Dear Language Advocate,

We need your voice today 📣

Congress is making funding decisions right now that will directly impact language education, international exchange programs, and our nation's language capacity. We have three active advocacy campaigns that need immediate support, and we are asking every member of our community to take action on all three.

Each action only takes a few minutes, but together our voices can make a powerful difference.

1. Restore Funding for the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Exchange
International exchange programs create life-changing opportunities for students, educators, and communities while advancing U.S. diplomacy and global engagement.

📢 Tell the Senate to restore funding for the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Exchange.

Take Action:

2. Protect Critical Language Education Funding
Federal investments support language education programs that help students develop the multilingual skills needed for success in today's world.

📢 Urge Congress to protect national investments in critical language education programs.

Take Action:

3. Support World Language Advancement and Readiness Funding
Language capability is a national security priority. Funding for World Language Advancement and Readiness (WLAR) helps build the language skills needed to support our nation's defense and security objectives.

📢 Ask Congress to secure World Language Advancement and Readiness funding in FY27 Defense Appropriations.

Take Action:

Do All Three. Then Share.
We encourage you to complete all three action alerts today and then share them with:

Colleagues
Students
Parents
Administrators
Community members
Fellow advocates

The more messages Congress receives, the stronger our collective voice becomes.

Thank you for standing up for language education, international exchange, and America's multilingual future.

Together, we can make an impact.

WIABE is honored to have celebrated the legacy and life of Maestro Luis López, the 1st bilingual teacher at South Division High School in the Milwaukee Public Schools District.

Many joined in celebration of his unwavering advocacy, pioneering leadership, and lifelong dedication to bilingual education and community empowerment. He will be remembered not only as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, but also as an exceptional educator who dedicated his life to serving Milwaukee’s Latino community. He was a trailblazer, mentor, and champion for equity.

His legacy lives on through the countless lives he transformed, the doors he opened, and the community he strengthened. Maestro Luis López continues to make an impact in our students’ lives, our families, and community to this day. Thank you to everyone who was present to celebrate his life and legacy. ✨
