Another Haunted location with many tales and stories! Woodland Cemetery and Arboretum located in Dayton Ohio!

The Legend of Johnny Morehouse! 👦🐶

The story says that in the 1860s, 5-year-old Johnny Morehouse fell into the old Miami & Erie Canal and drowned. His loyal dog reportedly tried to save him but failed. According to the legend, the dog later stayed beside Johnny’s grave for days until it died from grief.

Johnny’s grave became famous because of the haunting statue placed there — a sculpture of the little boy with his faithful dog standing guard over him. Visitors still leave:

* toys
* coins
* dog treats
* stuffed animals
* flowers

at the grave today. If you have any stories about the Woodland Cemetery and Arboretum please leave them below!

The Black Dog of Newgate is a ghostly figure from English folklore, associated with the former Newgate Prison, one of the most notorious prisons in London’s history. Newgate Prison was used for centuries and became known for harsh conditions, executions, and suffering, which contributed to many ghost stories linked to the site.

In the legend, the Black Dog is described as a large, shadowy hound with dark fur and glowing eyes. It is often said to appear suddenly in corridors, cells, or dark corners of the prison. Its form is sometimes unclear, more like a moving shadow than a solid animal, which adds to its frightening presence.

Folklore connects the appearance of the dog with moments of fear, death, or extreme distress. Some stories claim it appeared before executions or during times when prisoners suffered greatly. One version of the legend says the spirit formed after an act of desperation or violence among prisoners, and from that time on, the dog began to haunt the prison halls.

Deep in Otterbein Cemetery lies one of Ohio’s strangest legends… the Bloody Horseshoe Grave.
Mary Angle Henry died in 1845 shortly after giving birth at just 23 years old. 🩸🧲

Her grieving husband, James, placed a sandstone marker over her grave. But not long after he remarried, a rust-colored stain in the shape of a horseshoe mysteriously appeared on the back of the headstone.

Locals believed it was a curse… and the legend only grew darker when James was reportedly kicked to death by one of his own horses soon after. Some say it was divine punishment for breaking a promise to his deceased wife, while others believe the mark is simply a natural iron stain in the stone.🪦

But to this day, many still call it… the Bloody Horseshoe Grave.
