The Sports and Society Initiative at Ohio State is devoted to the development of a better understanding of the role of amateur and professional sports in the economy and society at large. Its goal is to promote high quality research related to issues of societal concern in sports at all levels through research grants, undergraduate and graduate training and internships, the sponsorship of conferences and interaction with policy makers in sports and related industries.

Let’s speed back to race weekend! 🏁 This year, SSI sponsored four students to volunteer at the iconic Indy500, and here to share her experience is senior Natalie Hoover.
“Race day, I started out at the Pagoda. We had to be out there at 4am, and I was there until noon. Gates opened at 6am, but nothing gets super busy until 8-9am. From then on, it’s all a blur. So many people, everywhere, all the time. I met people from Italy, Spain, Sweden, Mexico, and Japan. I also had a longer conversation with a few lovely ol’ Brits who came all the way “across the pond,” just to see our race!”
