Please make sure you have CO Detectors and that they are working properly. If they alarm, get outside and cal 911. Be safe!

It is with great sadness that today, March 1, 2026 marks 23 years since the death of my parents, Patty and Gene Overbeck due to accidental carbon monoxide poisoning. Not a day goes by that I don't think about them and wish that I could tell them that I love them dearly. They are my guardian angels. 🙏

Friends –

As many of you know, I lost both of my parents (Patty & Gene Overbeck) on March 1, 2003 due to Accidental Carbon Monoxide Poisoning. We are now coming up on 23 years since that awful day. Since then, I have been on a mission to spread Education and Awareness on the dangers of accidental carbon monoxide poisoning in hopes that others do not receive a phone call like I did on that day. With that said, I am asking you to help me with my mission to spread education and awareness by helping me raise much needed funds so we can continue to tackle CO poisoning from all levels – public education, advocacy, research, standards/regulations, medical and first responder training, community collaboration, and more.

I currently am a board member of the National Carbon Monoxide Awareness Association (NCOAA.US) and my primary focus has been on much needed fund raising so we can keep spreading education and awareness and save lives. Donations can be made in Memory of Patty & Gene Overbeck at www.ncoaa.us on the Memory Wall. Every single day, there are, on average, 274 emergency room visits and at least 3 deaths, but this is a preventable phenomenon. Please think about a one-time donation of any amount to help the fight! Go to www.ncoaa.us to donate.

NCOAA is proud of the progress we’ve made over the past year, and we could not work towards our vision of ending injuries and death related to CO poisoning without your help.

Your support is invaluable to our mission. Learn more about us and our work at www.ncoaa.us and www.facebook.com/OverbeckFoundation

I want to personally thank you for your help and support! God Bless!

Carbon monoxide poisoning cases are rising.

Virginia hospitals are reporting an increase in emergency room visits tied to carbon monoxide exposure during this winter storm. Gov. Abigail Spanberger and the Virginia Department of Health are urging residents to use heating and power sources safely and to listen to CO alarms.

• Run generators outdoors, 20 ft from buildings
• Never use grills or heaters indoors

Check your alarms this winter, everyone!

Great reminder!

Athol Fire recently responded to a CO call. It was found that the chimney at the residence had several structural failures causing the chimney to be plugged.

Having your chimney inspected annually can help reduce your chances of a Carbon Monoxide incident, as well as the chance of fire!
