People mean well. I genuinely believe that.
But the advice floating around about raising bilingual kids? Most of it is not based in any kind of reality. It’s based on vibes.

“Just put them in a Spanish-speaking environment and they’ll pick it up.” Let me just relocate my whole family real quick.

“There are so many free apps. Why pay for classes?” You know what else is free? YouTube workout videos. And yet personal trainers still have jobs. Because being around something is not the same as being coached through it.

“It’ll just happen if you expose them enough.” This one is my personal favorite — because it’s almost true. And that’s what makes it so sneaky.

Exposure alone — without personal interaction and language production — produces children who can recognize Spanish when they hear it. And cannot produce a single sentence.

It is a fact of what to do to produce a bilingual child. We don’t have to guess at it. It’s not a mystery.
