Downwinders at Risk Education Fund is dedicated to taking effective action on behalf of those being harmed by air pollution.

Our goal is to build a strong grassroots constituency and create new strategies for clean air in North Texas.

The fight for Environmental Justice in West Dallas and Joppa against the toxic polluters GAF and TAMKO is reaching its boiling point. Come see the documentary that tells the story of the commitment of community members in West Dallas and Joppa residents have to fighting for the health of their neighborhoods. We show you the pollution that is hidden to the naked eye but is polluting these communities 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

The day after this screening City Council will be deciding to pursue a consultant to evaluate the cost of removing both of these polluters. The fight needs your input so we hope you join alus and push the City of Dallas to support environmental justice.

Part 6... Toxic Twins Campaign Engagement Series

The Action!!! The Time for Dallas to remove TAMKO and GAF is now!

For the first time the removal of GAF and TAMKO will be discussed by Dallas City Council. The first step will happen at the Economic Development Committee this Monday, April 6th at 1pm (Feel free to watch on dallascitynews.et) The committee will pick a consultant to evaluate the market value of each company.

Transparency throughout this process is key, in fighting inflated amounts to remove the facilities, like the City Hall issue happening now!

Part 5... Toxic Twins Campaign Engagement Series

The Documentary! With the help of Divided Line Cinema we were able to put out a documentary that shows the pollution spilling out from these facilities and the years of work that the community has undertaken to address this issue.

We will be holding another screening of this film on Tuesday April 21st at 6pm. A flyer and eventbrite for that event is coming soon.

This is not only about these two facilities, it's about the right for self determination for both the Joppa and West Dallas Communities! We need to engage with the history and understand the legacy of discrimination and disinvestment that has led to polluters being located near communities.

The reason the removal GAF and TAMKO will be heard by council is due to hours and hours of work out by residents of Joppa and West Dallas and dozens of volunteers who are concerned for our communities and Dallas 'overall need for better air quality.

Downwinders is happy to announce our new 6 week training course called CommUniversity! This course is designed to build the EJ Leaders of tomorrow. We will be providing all of the necessary information to help you build campaigns that better the air quality for at risk communities and our entire region. We invite all to apply to the course and gain the skills necessary to fight for EJ like a Downwinder!

Here are the details:

📅 The 6 week CommUniversity course begins Wednesday February 18th through March 25

📍Classes will meet every Wednesday from 6-8pm at Good CoWorking (1808 S Good Latimer Expy)
