Today, we had the opportunity to celebrate our incredible 8th Grade AVID students!

We are so proud of each and every one of them and all they have accomplished during their time in the AVID program at Cockrill. Many of these students began their AVID journey with us in 6th grade, and it has been amazing to watch them grow into confident leaders!

As they prepare for their next chapter, we know they are going to do amazing things in high school and beyond. The future is bright for this special group of students, and we cannot wait to see all they accomplish! 🎉💙

🎓 AVID Spring College Week 🎓

Join us March 30 – April 2 for our College Colors Showdown as students and staff show their college pride all week long! Each day, students can choose between two college color themes and wear their favorite to support their team.

💙🧡 7th Grade Field Trip to UTA! 🧡💙

Our 7th graders wrapped up our fall field trip season with an exciting visit to the University of Texas at Arlington on Monday. They enjoyed an immersive show at the planetarium and had a delicious lunch at the Connections Café.

We’re so grateful that our AVID students get the opportunity to explore college campuses each year! 🎓✨

💙🤍 6th Grade’s First College Field Trip! 🤍💙

Our 6th graders had an amazing time visiting East Texas A&M last week on their very first college field trip! 🎓

They saw a show at the planetarium, enjoyed a delicious lunch in the campus cafeteria, and had a blast soaking up the perfect weather. ☀️

It was an unforgettable day full of fun and college inspiration! 💫

🎓 SMU Field Trip 🎓

Last week, our 8th graders took their first college field trip of the year to SMU, and it was an incredible experience! They toured the George W. Bush Presidential Library, enjoyed lunch in the campus cafeteria, and got a real taste of college life.

Our students represented Cockrill AVID beautifully. They were respectful, engaged, and received personal compliments from two SMU staff members for their outstanding behavior on campus.

✨ We’re excited to welcome back our amazing AVID tutors, Ms. Kristal and Ms. Rachel! ✨

This year, they’re joined by fourteen outstanding 8th-grade leaders selected for our AVID Elite Leadership Program. These student leaders will be working alongside our tutors to guide tutorials, mentor younger AVID students, and model what it means to be a Cockrill AVID student!

Our AVID program is stronger than ever with this incredible team of tutors and student leaders supporting our 6th–8th grade classrooms. We can’t wait to see the impact they’ll make this year!

Today, all Cockrill AVID students came together to reflect on the impact AVID has had on their growth. Each student created their own “Because of AVID, I…” sign, sharing skills they’ve gained, confidence they’ve built, and opportunities they’ve experienced. Even our newest students are already seeing the difference AVID is making in their journey!

From strengthening organization and study habits to setting goals and believing in themselves, our Cowboys are showing the power of AVID in action. 💙

👏 Guest Speaker Spotlight! 👏
Today, our AVID students had the honor of hearing from our very first guest speaker of the year — McKinney Boyd graduate Austin Morrison! 🎓

Austin shared about his seven-year journey in the AVID program, including three years at Cockrill. He inspired students with stories of how AVID shaped his path and helped him reach his college goals. 🌟

This fall, Austin will be attending East Texas A&M, and we couldn’t be prouder to see where his journey takes him next! 💙
