Have you ever wondered why schools now have School Counselors instead of Guidance Counselors?

Years ago, "guidance counselor" was the common title for professionals who primarily helped students with schedules, course selection, and career planning. But the profession has evolved significantly over time.

In Florida, the term Guidance Counselor is officially obsolete. The Florida Legislature replaced it with Certified School Counselor in the Florida Statutes, recognizing the evolution of the profession and the broader scope of services school counselors provide.

Today, School Counselors do much more than help with class schedules. We support students in three key areas:

✅ Academic Development – Helping students set goals, monitor progress, and achieve success in the classroom.

✅ College & Career Readiness – Assisting with college planning, career exploration, scholarships, testing, and future opportunities.

✅ Social & Emotional Well-Being – Supporting students through challenges, building coping skills, fostering healthy relationships, and connecting families with resources when needed.

At Bishop Verot, our School Counselors are advocates, listeners, problem-solvers, and partners who work alongside students, families, teachers, and administrators to help every student thrive.

This prestigious honor recognizes a junior who demonstrates academic excellence, leadership, and a commitment to serving others—values that reflect the mission of Sacred Heart University. As part of the award, Gianna received *Dorothy Day: The World Will Be Saved by Beauty: An Intimate Portrait of My Grandmother* by Kate Hennessy. The book explores the life and legacy of Dorothy Day, a renowned social activist, journalist, and advocate for justice and compassion.

We are proud to celebrate Gianna’s achievements and the positive impact they make in our school community.

Big news for future Gators! 🐊🎓

The University of Florida has announced a new Early Decision option for the 2026–27 admissions cycle, joining its Early Action and Regular Decision pathways. Students applying through Early Decision will receive their admissions decision in December of their senior year.

📅 Key UF Freshman Application Deadlines:
🐊 Early Decision (Binding)
• Application Deadline: Oct. 15
• Decision Release: Dec. 11

🐊 Early Action (Non-Binding)
• Application Deadline: Nov. 1
• Decision Release: Jan. 22

🐊 Regular Decision (Non-Binding)
• Application Deadline: Jan. 15
• Decision Release: March 19

We are so proud to see your hard work, leadership, and dedication recognized at the national level!

Last week, we celebrated the accomplishments of our 15 seniors headed to UCF.

Now, let’s look at the admitted student profile for FSU, where 13 seniors from the BVHS Class of 2026 will soon wear garnet and gold.

With nearly 92,000 applications and top GPAs and test scores, this is an incredible accomplishment. We’re so proud of these students for their hard work, leadership, and dedication.
