Long before Rep. Allen Chesser (R-Nash) was a member of the North Carolina House of Representatives, he was a member of the U.S. Army National Guard. He completed over 100 combat missions in Iraq as a turret gunner.
“I was fortunate enough to make it home, but many of us didn’t make it home. And even those of us that did make it home still fight battles on a daily basis, and unfortunately, some of us are still losing those battles,” said Chesser.
Chesser said the country loses between 17 and 44 veterans to su***de every single day, which underscores the need for newer, better interventions for mental health. He believes psꪗchꫀdeꪶic drugs could help.

Bipartisan North Carolina lawmakers are stepping up the push for psꪗchꫀdeꪶics reform legislation by asking colleagues to pass it as part of the budget.
“This bill makes a real investment in mental health innovation, research and access to the people of our state,” Sen. Robert Brinson (R), lead sponsor of the Healing through Evidence-based Access to Lifesaving Care (HEAL) Act, said, noting that “momentum is building” for psꪗchꫀdeꪶics reform at the federal and state levels.

Amid recent widespread scholarly interest in the potential of ps𝒾𝓁𝑜cy𝒷𝒾𝓃 and other psꪗchꫀdeꪶics to treat depression, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), addiction and other maladies, most of the research to date has focused on therapeutic interventions offered to individuals.
The GPAT study is aligned with the New Mexico Therapeutic Ps𝒾𝓁𝑜cy𝒷𝒾𝓃 Program in its focus on access and equity, as well as the use of state-regulated whole ps𝒾𝓁𝑜cy𝒷𝒾𝓃 mushrooms rather than a synthesized version, Leeman said. Each group will participate in two sessions in which they receive chocolates containing 20 mg or 30 mg of ps𝒾𝓁𝑜cy𝒷𝒾𝓃, along with both group and individual therapy sessions.

Hines program joins VA trials at sites in Houston, New York, and San Francisco, creating the most geographically distributed clinical evidence-generation program for psꪗchꫀdeꪶic therapy in federal healthcare history.
The scientific basis for ps𝒾𝓁𝑜cy𝒷𝒾𝓃 in PTSD treatment is now substantial. Phase 2 trial data from MAPS (Multidisciplinary Association for Psꪗchꫀdeꪶic Studies) and Compass Pathways have consistently shown clinically significant reductions in PTSD symptom severity following ps𝒾𝓁𝑜cy𝒷𝒾𝓃-assisted therapy sessions, with effect sizes that exceed those of the best currently available pharmacological interventions (SSRIs and SNRIs).

“I’m not going to be there next year, I’m term-limited out,” said Griffith, a Republican who served as chairman of the House Veterans and Armed Forces Committee. “It’s really passing the torch to a lot of the other veterans that are on the Veterans Committee and those that see the value in it.”
He was hopeful when he saw an announcement from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs last week for a new clinical trial to evaluate the safety and efficacy of M𝐷M𝐴-assisted therapy.
“PTSD is really a killer among veterans. If you listen to the testimony that’s been taking place over the last five years just in the Missouri House alone, the life change that it’s had for them is a really compelling reason why something like this would work,” said Griffith.

“Before this paper gets flattened into “i᥇oᧁa heals brain injury,” it helps to read what the paper actually says. The authors are careful.
Since there are special risks with i᥇oᧁa, we should be too.
Burton Tabaac, Robin Carhart-Harris, and Teresa Yung followed three patients through a participant-directed protocol using whole Tabernanthe I᥇oᧁa root bark. Not isolated i᥇oᧁainꫀ, which is the drug most clinics use. Lab testing put the material at about 3.8% i᥇oᧁainꫀ by mass.”

Answering the call to serve meant stepping toward danger when others stepped away. It demanded extraordinary courage, unwavering sacrifice, and a resilience forged in moments most will never witness.
Yet for many, the longest journey begins after the sirens fade, the mission ends, and the uniform is set aside.
Here are some ways you can offer your support during PTSD Awareness Month:
* Listen Without Trying to Fix: Offer a safe, non-judgmental space where veterans and first responders can share their experiences without pressure, advice, or expectations.
* Encourage Connection, Not Isolation: Gently invite them into supportive communities, peer groups, nature experiences, or trusted relationships where they feel seen and understood.
* Normalize Seeking Help: Remind them that reaching out for support is a sign of strength, courage, and self-respect - not weakness.
* Practice Patience and Compassion: Healing is rarely linear. Meet them where they are, honoring both their progress and their challenges with understanding.
* Support Nervous System Regulation: Encourage activities that promote calm and grounding, such as spending time in nature, mindful movement, breathwork, meditation, or creative expression.

The psꪗchꫀdeꪶics legislation now heads to the desk of Gov. Jeff Landry (R) for consideration.
Rep. Neil Riser (R), who presented the legislation to the House, said previously that the amendment adding M𝐷M𝐴 “put us in positive correlation” with a psꪗchꫀdeꪶics executive order recently signed by President Donald Trump “so that we can look at all different alternatives, including those that are beyond i᥇oᧁainꫀ that were listed it in the executive order.”
He discussed psꪗchꫀdeꪶics as a much-needed alternative treatment option for military veterans and others dealing with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), saying that “for every soldier that’s killed in action, five commit su***de when they get home.”

Bipartisan congressional lawmakers say they’re working to codify into law an executive order President Donald Trump issued to streamline research and access into psꪗchꫀdeꪶic medicine.
During an interview with CBS News last week, Correa was asked about potential complications with the president’s action given that Marty Makary resigned as head of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), which plays a key role in advancing drug research and development.

“We need an all-of-the-above strategy when it comes to improving mental health treatments, and that’s exactly what VA is working to deliver,” said VA Secretary Doug Collins. “This trial represents an important step in safely evaluating new approaches and innovations to treat Veterans with severe mental health conditions.”
The VA’s trial, titled “A Randomized Controlled Trial of M𝐷M𝐴 ︀-Assisted Therapy for PTSD and Alcohol Use Disorder in U.S. Veterans,” will enroll approximately 80 Veterans and compare outcomes between those receiving M𝐷M𝐴 ︀-assisted therapy and those receiving identical psychotherapy with an active placebo. VA is coordinating with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and intends to share data from the trial with FDA.
