Yesterday afternoon was exciting at College Park Elementary as Chess Club members competed in the annual tournament made possible by Mitsubishi Chemical, the school's Partner in Education. The after-school club, which was started by a Mitsubishi Chemical volunteer three years ago, continues to grow and thrive, and students look forward to the tournament each year.
Our thanks to Mitsubishi Chemical volunteers Reggie Delaney, Jerry Curtis and Christian Brittain and teacher sponsor Nicolas Ramirez for devoting their time to building this program and to Mitsubishi Chemical plant manager Brian Kinkopf for his continued support.

The La Porte Ladies Reading Club earned recognition as Volunteers of the Year at La Porte Elementary's volunteer appreciation brunch this morning. We are so grateful to them for reading with our first-grade students each week and for bringing books that students can take home!
Volunteers were also treated to performances by the outstanding La Porte Elementary Honor Choir, under the direction of Kathy Parisher, and the amazing La Porte Elementary Spirit Team, under the direction of Belva Perry. What a wonderful way to start the day!
