The Carmel Band family is excited to welcome Dr. Ashley Summerlin back to our team of directors!
We are super excited to welcome Dr. Ashley Summerlin to the band director team at Clay Middle School!
Dr. Summerlin returns to Clay after serving as a band director at Avon Middle School West in Avon, Indiana. Prior to her work in Avon, she was part of Carmel Clay Schools as the Middle School Percussion Director, Assistant Director of the Carmel High School Percussion Ensemble, and Front Ensemble Educator for the Carmel High School Marching Greyhounds.
In addition to her school responsibilities, Dr. Summerlin is highly active in the marching arts community as the Front Ensemble Coordinator for The Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps and a Front Ensemble Educator for Rhythm X.
Dr. Summerlin earned her Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Percussion Performance from The Ohio State University, where she studied under Dr. Susan Powell and Mr. Joseph Krygier. Her doctoral research focused on developing a repertoire guide of four-mallet keyboard solo literature for students ranging from beginning percussionists through high school graduation.
We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Summerlin to Clay and energized for the future of Clay Bands! Please join us in welcoming her to our school community!

We are grateful to be a part of a community that supports the arts. Thank you to our students, educators, families, and school corporation for helping music education thrive in our community! 💙
🎶 National Stage, Local Opportunities. 🎶
We are thrilled to announce that Carmel Clay Schools has received national recognition for championing music education! CCS is one of only 1,000 schools and districts nationwide to be named one of the Best Communities for Music Education by the NAMM Foundation!
From Kindergarten through graduation, we believe every student deserves a well-rounded education. As Department Chair (and CHS Teacher of the Year Chris Kreke) puts it: "Music is a fundamental part of how our students learn to think, collaborate, and express themselves."
We are so proud to provide these opportunities to our students and to live in a community that loves and supports the arts as much as we do. Here’s to inspiring the next generation of creators! 🎺🎻🎤
