Today, we recognize Juneteenth, a day that commemorates freedom, resilience, and an important chapter in our nation's history. As we honor Juneteenth, we encourage reflection on the importance of knowledge, understanding, and the ongoing pursuit of opportunity for all.

What exactly is a Museum School? 🤔
At Jackson Museum School, learning begins with a question.
Students explore that question through hands-on expeditions to museums, community partners, and real-world learning experiences. They investigate, ask questions, and learn directly from artifacts, exhibits, experts, and the world around them.
Along the way, students document their discoveries in a Travel Log, reflecting on what they’ve learned and how their thinking has grown.
The journey culminates in Exhibit Night, where students become the teachers. Acting as docents, they share their learning, building confidence, communication skills, and a deeper understanding of their work.
The Museum School model blends science, history, art, literacy, and critical thinking into meaningful experiences that spark curiosity and help students make lasting connections between the classroom and the world beyond it.

As we get closer each day to opening our doors for the 2026 school year, we want you to meet the people behind the mission of Jackson Museum School. ✨
First, meet Dr. Jean Little, our CEO & Superintendent.
With more than 20 years of experience in education, Dr. Little has dedicated her career to helping students and educators thrive. Her journey began as a high school English and Journalism teacher in Obion County, Tennessee, where she spent 13 years inspiring young minds before stepping into leadership roles that have impacted schools, districts, and higher education across West Tennessee.
Throughout her career, Dr. Little has served as Principal of Carr Elementary, Tennessee Academic Specialist with Focus Schools, District Humanities & Literacy Curriculum Coordinator for Jackson-Madison County Schools, and Interim Dean of Academic Support Services at Bethel University. She holds an Ed.D. in School Leadership and Policy from the University of Memphis, along with a bachelor's degree and two master's degrees in education from the University of Tennessee at Martin.
Today, Dr. Little is leading the vision for Jackson Museum School, where literacy, creativity, curiosity, and project-based learning come together to create meaningful educational experiences for students.
Her passion for innovative learning and her commitment to student success are helping shape a school where every child is encouraged to explore, create, and grow.
