Rockhurst University joins the Dunn family in mourning the loss of Bill Dunn Sr., โ€™46, longtime CEO of JE Dunn Construction, who died May 31 at age 102. The family has maintained deep roots in the Rockhurst University community, with Bill and his late wife, Jean, giving each of their sons the gift of a Jesuit education at Rockhurst.

JE Dunn Construction has not only been instrumental in the development of the Kansas City skyline, but also in the evolution of Rockhurst's campus โ€“ including Fr. Pedro Arrupe, S.J., Hall and the Magis Activity Center.

Bill Sr. served on the first lay Board of Trustees and remained an honorary trustee throughout his life. He was also a key player in the foundation of the Chillicothe Companions Program, providing education to staff and offenders at the Chillicothe Correctional Center, and the Priest Leadership Formation Program, which provides business and leadership skills to priests in the diocese.

Please join us in praying for the Dunn family. ๐Ÿ’™

With the release of Pope Leo XIV's encycical on safeguarding the human person in the time of artificial intelligence, an important conversation has been raised.

John Kerrigan, Ph.D., professor and chair of English at Rockhurst University, shares his thoughts on the value of a liberal arts education against the backdrop of this unprecedented technological age. Will the study of humanities โ€“literature, history, language, etc. โ€“ become defunct if AI can generate information instantly?

Kerrigan argues it is precisely because of the rapid output of artifical intelligence that the study of liberal arts is more important than ever. Human understanding, connection, analysis, and critical thinking will be what employers look for.
