🧠 ADHD Awareness

One of the biggest misconceptions about ADHD is that it’s simply a lack of attention.

But many children with ADHD can pay attention very well—sometimes for hours.

The challenge is often regulating attention, especially when a task is boring, overwhelming, unclear, or doesn’t provide immediate feedback.

That’s why a child may struggle to start homework but can memorize every character, level, strategy, and rule of their favorite game.

When we stop asking:

❌ “Why won’t they focus?”

And start asking:

✅ “What helps them focus?”

Everything changes.

Understanding leads to better support. Better support leads to better outcomes.

💬 What is one ADHD misconception you wish more people understood?

🧠 Sometimes the fastest way to calm a student’s mind is to calm their body first.

Simple breathing exercises.

Stretching.

Pushing against a desk.

Movement breaks.

These small interventions can help students shift from survival mode into learning mode.

Because when students are dysregulated, more talking often isn’t the answer.

This clip comes from our video:

⚽🌎 The World Cup kicks off here in Los Angeles today—and it’s a great reminder that sports do more than create athletes. They help build mental health.

Whether it’s soccer, basketball, swimming, martial arts, or simply playing outside with friends, sports can help children and adults:

✅ Reduce stress
✅ Improve focus
✅ Build confidence
✅ Develop resilience
✅ Strengthen social connections
✅ Support emotional regulation

As parents and educators, we often focus on grades, behavior, and performance. But sometimes the greatest lesson sports teach isn’t about winning—it’s about perseverance, teamwork, self-control, and learning how to bounce back when things don’t go our way.

🧠⚽ A healthy mind grows best in a healthy body.

Question for our community: What sport had the biggest positive impact on your life growing up?

🎮 Your child can memorize every character, level, strategy, and code in a video game…

📚 But they can’t stay focused on homework for five minutes.

Most people see that and assume laziness.

The reality is much more complicated.

Attention isn’t just about effort. It’s about how the brain processes motivation, novelty, reward, and executive functioning.

Understanding this difference can completely change how we support children who struggle with focus.

🌿 Meditation Monday

Many of us spend our lives taking care of everyone else.

We answer questions.
We solve problems.
We show up for our families, students, coworkers, and communities.

But when was the last time you intentionally set aside time for yourself?

This week, try a simple challenge:

⏰ Carve out one uninterrupted hour just for you.

Not for work.
Not for chores.
Not for productivity.

For restoration.

Read.
Walk.
Pray.
Meditate.
Create.
Rest.

Because the best version of you is not always the busiest version of you.

✨ Reflection Question: How will you spend your hour today?

🌕💚 FINAL REFLECTION NIGHT

As Mental Health Awareness Month comes to a close, tonight offers a unique opportunity to pause, reflect, and acknowledge how far you’ve come.

Under tonight’s Blue Moon, consider:

✨ What have I learned?
✨ What am I proud of?
✨ What am I grateful for?
✨ What do I want to carry forward?

Growth isn’t always loud.

Sometimes it’s choosing to keep going.
Sometimes it’s asking for help.
Sometimes it’s simply making it through another day.

This month, we’ve talked about awareness, resilience, connection, self-care, and hope.

Tonight, take a moment to honor your progress—no matter how small it may seem.

💬 What is one thing you’re proud of from this month?

🌙 Protect your peace.
💚 Honor your progress.
✨ Carry hope forward.

“Don’t talk to him. Just support what she’s doing.”

That single moment changed everything.

Many timeout procedures fail because adults continue negotiating, explaining, warning, or providing attention throughout the process.

When a child learns that challenging behavior leads to extra attention, arguments, or emotional reactions, the behavior often becomes stronger—not weaker.

Effective behavior support isn’t about being harsh.

It’s about being clear, consistent, and understanding what is actually maintaining the behavior.

What have you found to be the most challenging part of using timeouts consistently?

A Child Bit Someone… Now What?

One of the most common questions we hear from parents and educators is:

“What should I do when a child bites?”

The answer is often more complex than people think.

Biting can be:

🧠 Communication
😟 Frustration
🔄 Sensory seeking
🚧 Difficulty with transitions
😡 Limited coping skills

The behavior matters.
But understanding why the behavior happened matters even more.

In this video, we break down:

✅ What to do immediately after a biting incident
✅ What NOT to do
✅ Why punishment alone often misses the real issue
✅ How to reduce the chances of it happening again

🎥 Watch below 👇🏾

💬 Have you ever dealt with biting at home, school, or in childcare settings?

One of the most misunderstood concepts in behavior is consequences.

Many people assume:

“Bad behavior happened. Give a consequence.”

But behavior doesn’t work that simply.

The same consequence can:
✔️ reduce behavior
✔️ increase behavior
✔️ do nothing at all

The question isn’t: “What consequence did we give?”

The question is: “What effect did it actually have?”

That’s where behavior science becomes incredibly useful.
