U.S. Army 18th Military Police Brigade Holds Command Sergeant Major Change of Responsibility Ceremony
After nearly 28 years of honorable service, Command Sergeant Major Jeffrey R. Freeby officially transferred responsibility for the 18th Military Police Brigade during a military ceremony at Tower Barracks, Grafenwöhr, Germany.
During his tenure, the brigade supported Operation Trident Spear, participated in multiple V Corps wartime exercises, contributed to DEFENDER 25, and carried out law enforcement, detention, explosive ordnance disposal (EOD), and military working dog missions across Europe. The ceremony also recognized CSM Freeby with the Meritorious Service Medal for his outstanding leadership and dedication to soldiers, readiness, and professional development.

U.S. Army Special Forces from the 10th Special Forces Group (Airborne) trained alongside Swedish Amphibious Forces in Visit, Board, Search, and Seizure (VBSS) operations. This joint exercise focused on maritime interdiction, close-quarters tactics, boarding procedures, and allied interoperability. Training like this strengthens operational readiness and enhances cooperation between partner forces in complex maritime environments.

The U.S. Army Reserve officially inaugurated a new Equipment Concentration Site (ECS) at Camp Shelby, Mississippi, on June 16, 2026. During the ribbon-cutting ceremony, Lt. Gen. End of an Era: 104th Training Division’s 1st Brigade Inactivation Ceremony

On June 5, 2026, the U.S. Army's 104th Training Division officially inactivated its 1st Brigade during a casing of the colors ceremony in Denver, Colorado. The event marked the conclusion of more than five decades of dedicated service in training American soldiers and developing future Army leaders.

The ceremony featured remarks from Brig. Gen. Vance Kuhner, Commanding General of the 104th Training Division, alongside senior leaders and soldiers who honored the brigade’s long-standing legacy. The casing of the colors symbolizes the end of a unit’s active service while preserving its history, achievements, and contributions to the Army.

For over 50 years, the 1st Brigade played a vital role in preparing generations of soldiers and officer candidates, leaving a lasting impact on military readiness and leadership development across the force.

After more than three decades of dedicated military service, Command Sergeant Major Greg Hoffman officially retired from the Illinois Army National Guard.

Beginning his career as an Infantry Soldier in 1992, Hoffman served in multiple leadership and support roles throughout his military journey. Following the events of 9/11, he returned to uniform, deployed to Iraq, supported Hurricane Katrina relief operations, and later provided steady leadership during the COVID-19 response and other state missions.

Known for his professionalism, humility, and commitment to Soldiers and their families, CSM Hoffman leaves behind a legacy of service, leadership, and selfless dedication. His retirement ceremony honored not only his military achievements but also the positive impact he made on countless Soldiers throughout his career.
