Knoxville Firefighters Association Secretary/Treasurer Scott Dorrycott and Oak Ridge Fire Fighter's Association President Austin Keathley recently met with Tennessee Senate District 5 candidate Jimmy Matlock.
The discussion focused on issues important to firefighters, EMS professionals, and the communities we proudly serve across East Tennessee.
We appreciate the opportunity to meet with candidates who are willing to listen to the concerns of first responders and learn more about the challenges facing our profession. We look forward to continuing the conversation and hopefully working alongside Jimmy Matlock to support firefighters and EMS personnel throughout Tennessee.

On Father’s Day, Sunday, June 15, 2003, the Memphis Fire Department responded to a building fire at Family Dollar on North Watkins Street in Frayser. While fighting the fire, the roof collapsed causing Lieutenant Trent Kirk and Private Charles Zachary to become trapped in the building. Both members were pulled from the building by fellow firefighters. Lt. Kirk succumbed to his injuries that night and Private Zachary succumbed to his injuries on June 16th. May these brave firefighters continue to rest in peace and their families be comforted during this 23rd anniversary.

On June 1, 1796, Tennessee became America’s 16th state. From 1960 to today, TPFFA has represented over 7,100 fire service professionals from 35 locals, advocating for legislation, supporting our members, and honoring Tennessee’s tradition of service. As we celebrate Tennessee’s rich 230 year history, we’re reminded that our firefighters embody the same volunteer spirit that gave our state its nickname. Here’s to Tennessee past, present, and future!
