Yesterday, we officially kicked off the career launch Academy 2026, welcoming 115 incredible students who are ready to explore, grow, and see exactly what the possibilities could be for future healthcare.

An impact like this doesn't happen in a vacuum it takes a dedicated village to build local talent, and we are overflowing with gratitude for the incredible partners, sponsors, and supporters who made this launch possible.

Southwest hosted its fourth annual Utility Technology Summer Camp on June 16 for 20 Memphis-Shelby County Schools - MSCS high school students. In partnership with Memphis Light, Gas & Water (MLGW), students are gaining hands-on experience in utility careers while earning a $15/hour stipend.

This weeklong camp is designed to build a strong workforce pipeline by preparing students for in-demand careers in the utility industry. The program will wrap up with a closing graduation ceremony at the Macon Cove Campus on Thursday.

We are excited to share this news about our collaboration with Compass Community Schools Midtown Campus that will offer their high school students the opportunity to earn a Spanish Translation Certificate through dual enrollment coursework. The first cohort is set to launch this fall and will give the students who are heritage Spanish speakers, a pathway to becoming a professional translator for many types of industries.

🎓 Exciting news for Compass Memphis students! Compass Community Schools’ Midtown campus and Southwest Tennessee Community College have partnered to launch a first-of-its-kind Spanish Translation Certificate program for high school students.

Through this innovative dual enrollment partnership, heritage Spanish speakers can earn college credit while working toward a professional credential in a high-demand field. The program will prepare students for careers in healthcare, education, legal services, business, and more, while providing valuable real-world experience through internship opportunities.

More than 15 students will join the inaugural cohort this fall, creating new pathways from high school to college credit, professional certification, and career success. We’re excited to see partnerships like this expand opportunities for Tennessee students and strengthen college and career pathways across the state's public charter school sector.

We are excited to announce that Dr. Jose E. da Silva, vice president for strategic enrollment and student success, has been selected for the 2026-27 Aspen Rising Presidents Fellowship.

Da Silva joins a cohort of 40 higher education leaders in this signature program of the Aspen Institute College Excellence Program.

The fellowship is a yearlong executive leadership program that brings together reform-minded community college leaders from across the country, preparing them to become the next generation of community college presidents and to drive transformational change and improve student outcomes.

Selected from more than 125 applicants across 20 states, fellows will spend the next year analyzing workforce and student success data, exploring proven models from Aspen Prize research, receiving mentorship from experienced college presidents, and developing strategies to enhance student success.

They join a growing network of more than 500 Aspen fellowship alumni, including more than 215 sitting presidents, who are working to expand economic mobility for students and strengthen communities nationwide.
