For those of you who are new here, I figured it was time to properly reintroduce myself.

My name is Cody Jay, and for the last 13 years, I’ve built my career around marketing, social media, influencer strategy, and helping brands and creators grow in ways that actually last.

I’m the CEO & founder of The Social Nexus Agency, specializing in influencer marketing, social commerce, creator partnerships, and brand strategy. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of working directly with major social media platforms, speaking at marketing conventions, serving as a keynote creator for NewFronts, and helping brands and creators navigate the constantly evolving creator economy.

At the same time, I’ve also spent the last 8 years building my own career as a content creator, and honestly, that combination has become one of my biggest strengths. Being both a creator and agency owner gives me a unique perspective on what creators need, what brands need, and where this industry is heading.

Outside of marketing, I’m also a certified professional makeup artist with experience working in med spas and dermatology offices, which heavily shaped the way I approach beauty, branding, skincare, and audience education online.

I dont know who told you that you need all of this expensive equipment in order to make high quality content....you don't! If you want to invest in better equipment in the future, wonderful. But for now you can use your phone and natural light or even a small $25 ring light to get started. You just have to START.

GMV Max can of course be a game changer when it comes to the total amount of commission someone is making per month, but I feel like people are a little too hyper focused on that program and are routinely dismissing incredible opportunities with brands who are not using those campaigns whatsoever but still are selling incredible levels of product. I think having a good balance in your strategy more than anything is important.

A media kit isn’t just a PDF… it’s your first impression before a brand ever replies.

As a creator, having a strong media kit on hand shows professionalism, highlights your value, and makes it easier for brands to instantly understand your audience, engagement, content style, and why you’re the right fit for a campaign. In a fast-moving world of influencer marketing and UGC partnerships, brands don’t want to chase information down, they want creators who are prepared.

Your content may get their attention, but your media kit helps close the deal! Keep in mind that not every brand will request one, but it's nice to have just in case.

A creator brief is one of the most important parts of a successful partnership between a brand and a creator. It acts as the foundation for the collaboration by clearly outlining the campaign goals, key messaging, deliverables, timelines, creative direction, brand expectations, and any important do’s and don’ts. A strong creator brief helps ensure both the brand and creator are aligned from the start, which leads to more authentic content, smoother communication, stronger performance, and fewer misunderstandings throughout the campaign. At the same time, the best briefs still allow creators enough creative freedom to produce content that feels natural to their audience, which is ultimately what drives trust, engagement, and conversions.

I wanted to take a moment to share my thoughts on creators who are using AI for their TikTok Shop videos. Because at the end of the day there is both a moral issue as well as the legal issue with it and I think individuals should be cautious of both of those when creating and posting content. I think it's one thing to use some AI features to help with content creation, but it's completely different when your entire video is AI....
