I thought I was going for a walk.
Instead, I found myself filming every few feet. 😂✨
While visiting St. Petersburg, Florida, I discovered the longest mosaic in the state (it’s a sidewalk!), and honestly, I couldn't stop staring at it. The colors, patterns, and craftsmanship just keep going and going.
As a mosaic artist, finding something like this feels a little like hitting the jackpot.
Have you ever stumbled across a piece of public art that completely surprised you?

You know that project you've been meaning to do for months?
This was mine. 😂
These colorful glass ornaments are supplies I use in my mosaic art, and they had completely taken over one corner of my studio. So I finally sorted everything by color, consolidated multiple bags into one storage container, and gave myself a little more breathing room.
The before-and-after is ridiculously satisfying.
Tell me I'm not the only artist with a "deal with it later" pile. 😅

Some art stays with you long after you've seen it.
I recently had the opportunity to see a small section of the AIDS Memorial Quilt when it was exhibited at the Scott Galvin Community Center in North Miami, Florida.
As a mosaic artist, I couldn't help noticing something familiar. Each panel tells one person's story, but together they become something much bigger...a reminder of how art can preserve memories, honor lives, and bring people together.
The speaker in the video is my brother, Councilman Scott Galvin, former North Miami Councilman and the person for whom the community center was named.
Standing in front of the quilt reminded me that meaningful art isn't always about complexity. Sometimes its greatest strength is simply the story it tells.
Have you ever experienced a piece of art that stayed with you?

I never feel bad about breaking a bowl anymore. 🥣🌼
Because eventually it turns into a mosaic flower….or something else.
The petals in this piece are broken ceramic bowl pieces, and the flower center is made from stained glass cut into tiny matchsticks. Honestly, my studio is just one giant “I can probably mosaic with that” experiment at this point. 😂

I’m convinced mosaic artists physically cannot walk past tile, stained glass, or public art without stopping. 😂
Went to see Devil Wears Prada 2 and immediately got distracted by this colorful mosaic wall instead. The tropical vibe + fountain + stained glass texture made the whole afternoon feel extra fun.
Honestly? Public art makes everyday life better. ✨☕🎬
Have you seen Devil Wears Prada 2 yet?

Apparently I’m hiding mosaics in the bushes now. 😂🌿✨
There’s just something about mosaic art in the garden that feels so magical. The sunlight, the greenery, the little surprise moments…it all works together perfectly.
And honestly? Mosaic garden stakes might be one of my favorite ways to add color outdoors.
Anyone else love sneaking art into unexpected places? 👀

Thinking about making a mosaic birdhouse for outdoors? Resist the urge to use wood. 😅
Wood expands and contracts with moisture and temperature changes, and all that movement can cause problems.
There are better options for outdoor mosaics which are much safer for long-term durability. 🧩✨
You put so much time and money into your mosaic art…but first take the time to think about the type of substrate you’ll use and where it will be displayed.

Creative people will understand this immediately. 😅
Sometimes making the art isn’t the hard part…starting is.
And then suddenly you’re completely locked in, covered in tiny glass pieces, and wondering why you avoided it all day. 😂✨

Not me realizing all those years of playing Operation were actually preparing me for mosaic art. 😂
Turns out placing tiny tesserae with tweezers requires the exact same concentration level…and slightly elevated blood pressure.
Anyone else suddenly connecting the dots here? 👀

One of the best feelings as a mosaic artist?
Knowing something you made by hand will become part of someone else’s home. ❤️
This stained glass votive...which can double as a vase...has all the cozy glowy goodness and I honestly never get tired of watching pieces like this head off to their new homes.
