Proud doesn’t begin to cover it. TIME just named Chad Houser to its inaugural Visionaries list, recognizing leaders across the country who are changing what’s possible for young people. I’ve seen Café Momentum’s work up close, and this recognition is so deserved. Chad has spent years proving that when we invest in justice-involved youth instead of giving up on them, everything changes. Congratulations, Chad.

An incredible story! And an important reminder of how recent all of this history is, as well as how far we’ve come. Go Lela!

Lela Moser, 18, has made history as the first Black valedictorian of Scottsboro High School in the school’s 132-year record.
Her achievement comes just 59 years after her uncle, Sam McCamey, was among the first Black students to integrate Scottsboro schools in 1967.
Moser earned the distinction with a 4.45 GPA while also securing a full scholarship to Auburn University, an athletic scholarship, and the 2026 Balfour Award — the high school’s highest non-academic honor — among numerous other accomplishments.
Reflecting on her journey, Moser said she encountered some of the same challenges her uncle faced decades earlier: belonging, perseverance, and opportunity.
“I found myself in positions where I felt lonely,” Moser said. “I was often the only Black student in my dual enrollment and AP classes. So I had to sacrifice being comfortable, put myself out there, and step into leadership positions where I didn’t have an example to look up to.”
Through those experiences, Moser said she realized she didn’t have to wait for someone else to pave the way. Instead, she chose to become a role model for students navigating similar challenges.
“I hope people take from our story that achieving the impossible is possible and that there’s still a long way to go in history,” Moser said.

This is who the Tennessee legislature is trying to gerrymander out, by the way. 🙄

On Saturday, Sigmas in Memphis fed and provided resources to the unhoused in our community in Morris Park. Way to exemplify the Divine 9 spirit of service, and be a model of what it looks like to give back for Greek organizations and for our country.
No one should be without a home or food to eat in the richest country on the planet. Whether it’s feeding others or fighting for policy, it’s on all of us to show up to see that change.
My Papa J was a Sigma. Thanks for allowing me to be apart of this special event.

It’s been a heavy few days in Tennessee. Racism is rearing its ugly head again. Black people are being disenfranchised out in the open. But we’re glad that is in this fight. For Memphis. For Tennessee. For all of us.

“Democratic lawmakers kicked out of committee, barred from entry”
“After protesters shut down the previous Senate committee meeting, the Judiciary Committee convened in the same room, but with doors sealed to the public and multiple Democratic House Representatives.
Both Rep. Gloria Johnson, D-Knoxville, and Rep. Gabby Salinas, D-Memphis, were seated in the meeting. While not on the committee, they attended to observe its members discuss overhauling current election timelines, among other measures.”

As Mother’s Day approaches here’s something you can do to help moms who are incarcerated. So many demographics of people are forgotten about once they’re behind bars—moms are no exception.
