Still thinking about our Literacy on Tap with journalist, author, and 2024 Queen Zulu .
The conversation around her newest graphic novel, “First Freedom: The Story of Opal Lee and Juneteenth,” reminded us that stories do more than teach history. They shape identity, possibility, confidence, and memory.
Thank you, Angelique, for reminding us why Black stories belong everywhere 🤎 And big love to every educator ensuring representative, truth-telling books are in their classrooms.

Thank you, BE NOLA family. Y’all held it down for ussss.🖤 Because of you, we raised $10,039.27 from 136 donors on GiveNOLA Day in support of Black educators, Black-led schools, and the future of education in New Orleans!
And while the number matters, what it represents matters even more. It represents people choosing to show up for us in a big way. It represents friends texting friends, our Institute fellows and board members sharing their stories, educators reminding us why this work matters, and community members giving what they could because they believe Black educators deserve to be supported, celebrated, and poured into. ✨
You gave. You shared. You bought merch. You attended. You invited people in. You reminded us that community is not just something we talk about... it is something we practice. Thank you for believing in BE NOLA and Black brilliance. 💫
