SWOP Brooklyn

We are sorry to inform the community that after 3+ years, SWOP Brooklyn has decided to disband and transition our resources to other community organizations. As of the release of this statement, SWOP Brooklyn has dissolved and is no longer operating or providing many of the services we have come to be known for.

We have distributed hundreds of thousands of dollars of emergency aid to the community; done a weekly street outreach; hosted a Monkeypox vaccine clinic; acted as a resource hub for s*x worker-friendly healthcare, mental health, and aid resources; and hosted numerous events, including community hangouts, fundraisers, and workshops/skill shares.

We loved organizing for these past few years, and we tried our best to keep it running, but it wasn’t feasible to keep it going any longer. We hope the community will be able to use the existing organizations and channel their money/time/energy towards those other community resources. Please check out our website (swopbrooklyn.org) for organizations you can look to for support in the future.

As harm reductionists and a community disproportionately affected by chronic illness and disability, we are committed to public health and uphold a long historical legacy of s*x worker public health advocacy. Please covid test beforehand and be prepared to share proof of your results. PCR tests are strongly encouraged over rapids for accuracy, and are widely available across the city for free. As communities, we need to demonstrate demand to maintain this free and necessary health service. If you do not have access to testing, free rapid tests will be provided. We recommend doing a throat + cheek + nasal swab for accuracy, as the latest covid strains are extremely test evasive.

This is an outdoor event. While we are not requiring masks, if someone else is wearing a mask, please take that as a cue to mask up in their proximity. Free masks and hand sanitizer will be provided. If you are testing negative but have symptoms of any communicable illness, please stay home and nurse your health—we’ll see you at the next one. 🕊
