Thank you Jessica for all the support you provide to youth and their families here at JRC. We ♥️ social workers!
March is , a time to honor Henry Street’s amazing social workers, case managers, mental health workers, and leaders—the beating heart of our services to the Lower East Side community! ♥️ Every Friday this month we’ll be featuring team members from across the Settlement.
As the social worker based at Henry Street’s Jacob Riis Cornerstone Community Center, Jessica Lin, MSW, serves young people ages 5 to 24. From helping children thrive in afterschool programs and providing a sounding board for their parents to connecting community members to English classes, job support, and other services at Henry Street, Jessica says it’s the little things that social workers do every day that add up to a big difference.
Jessica chose to work with underserved youth, because they can fall under the radar and be labeled as “bad” or “troublemakers” when they really need help. “What I love most is when clients feel validated and heard,” she says. Raised in Brooklyn by Mexican and Ecuadorian parents, she says, “People empowered me and believed in me, and I want to help others find those same resources. Life is hard as it is; having some help is needed.”
