You should absolutely make sure it's great, and angle it for the job you want.

But don't make it all you do!

You are your best asset for getting a new job and your time and energy should be spent more on:

👊prepping for interviews

Your resume only helps you get your foot in the door.

It's not the end all be all.

I can't be the only person who feels this way...

You know what you need to be replying to? ✨job search rejections✨

Whether it's a rejection from a submitted resume/application or if you've been passed on after interviewing, you should always reply! Here's why and how...

By replying you show vigor and enthusiasm for the job more so than the average applicant, which is what stands out and what employers are looking for.

If you receive a rejection email after submitting a resume/application, respond with:

👉"Thank you so much for taking the time to look over my resume. I'd really love the opportunity to work at XYZ company, are there any other roles you think I'd be a better fit for?"

If you've interviewed with a company and they decide to pass on you, respond with:

👉"Thank you so much for taking the time to speak with me. I've really enjoyed our conversations and learning more about XYZ company. May I ask why I wasn't selected for the position? Would appreciate any feedback or insights as I'd love the chance to work at XYZ in the future."

These replies can turn into a new connection and new position better suited for you!

I also want to add that this is especially important when you're updating your resume and LinkedIn.

You need to make sure you look like the perfect candidate for that exact job.

And you do that by using the same "language" spoke in those job listings.

This is vital to getting interviews because even if you're a referral a recruiter or hiring manager is still is going to scan your resume or LinkedIn before you get an interview.

And when they scan it, it needs to scream:
‼️ I AM THE PERSON YOU ARE LOOKING FOR ‼️

And you do that by incorporating the keywords and responsibilities that they constantly use in your resume and LinkedIn (while being still being honest of course!)

Or just keep reading, whichever you prefer!

Don't be afraid to ask towards the end of your ✨first✨ interview with a recruiter or hiring manager.

You don't want to lead with it because you want to do a little razzle dazzle of yourself and let them know how great you are first.

But you should still find out what the expectation is sooner rather than later in the interview process. So ask in the first interview.

👉"Just curious if employees are working from home or at the office?"
👉"What's your policy for working remotely vs the office?"

And if you want to know if you can WFH forever, don't be afraid to ask about that too...

👉"Is there a plan in place for returning to the office?"
👉"Has a hybrid work model been discussed for the future?"

Don't forget that interviews are also for you to find out what you want to know. They go both ways 😉

I thought I was team WFH forever but honestly I think I'm starting to feel I'd love a hybrid model once it's safe to do so.

I miss getting dressed where people can actually see my socks and I just miss seeing people in general. I always wonder how tall my coworkers are 🤔

I think if I had the option to go into the office like once a week when I'm in town I'd be good with that.

👉NEGOTIATE THE BEST OFFER
Don't leave money or anything else on the table. Once they've made you an offer ask for more, get more and be happy with a job you ✨actually like✨

Here's the thing. I just wrote that from the top of my head because as a freelancer and xennial I've done it a million times and ✨successfully✨

I never worry about getting a new job, because I know exactly what I'm looking for and how to get an offer.
