We are a student-run service and volunteer organization based in the Macaulay Honors College that focuses on health and education access issues abroad in South Asia and domestically with the South Asian diaspora communities in New York City.

Thank you to those who came out to our Holiday Dinner event in collaboration with Macaulay YES! All proceeds from the night will be going towards India Home, a non-profit organization dedicated to addressing the needs of the Indian and larger South Asian senior citizen immigrant community.

Last semester, SAHDI donated clothes to an organization called Anything For Jesus (A4J) to be distributed to school children. A4J is an organization devoted to helping underprivileged and orphan youth in all aspects of their lives, from basic needs to education and vocational training. We're really excited to see the kids enjoying our donations!

What does SAHDI mean to you?
"SAHDI allows me to reconnect with my ethnic roots and appreciate the culture of my people and region. The club creates a space for me to take action about issues that occur both domestically and internationally. I visit India, almost every year, and each time I go, the amount of homeless people increases drastically. Malnutritioned children, barely wearing any article of clothing, are knocking on car windows begging for money. It breaks my heart to see a child working at such a young age. No kid deserves to spend his or her youth in struggle. But instead, he or she should be attending school, getting an education, and breaking this cycle of poverty. In addition to homelessness, lack of education, and poverty, there are several environmental issues affecting the lives of those living in villages. I joined SAHDI to tackle some of these issues, provide aid, spread awareness, and improve the lives of people living in both rural and urban areas. I really love being part of SAHDI because the club consists of such diverse and dedicated students trying to make a difference."
