Hello and a late-but-still-warm welcome to the 2018-2019 speech season, Stuy Speech!!
Back in September, we attended the tumultuous first tournament of the year at Yale University! There were marriages, lots of thai food, hotel gym practices, and tons of other . Here’s how we did:

POI:
William Lohier ‘19 — SEMIFINALIST!!!!!!(7th!!!!) *

We also had a good time on our home turf last weekend, at the JV Hugh McEvoy Stuy tournament! A few of our brave novices were able to put together pieces in a very limited amount of time, compete at the tournament, and learn loads! We are very proud of how they handled themselves. And here are the results:

JVOI:
Tolulope Lawal ‘21 — (one of two) CHAMPION(s)!!!!!!!! *

(* indicates a half-qual for States)

Coming up this weekend is the Big Bronx Invitational and soon after, the Xavier tournament! Stay tuned!

If you are interested in auditioning for the Speech Team for the 2018-19 season, you can audition in room 627 THIS Thursday (9/27) or Friday (9/28). For your audition, you can perform either:

- A 1-2 minute monologue or script; does not need to be memorized. Put some thought into your delivery! Try not to bring in/read off of any random book.
-OR a 1-2 minute written speech/story about a surprising or interesting thing that happened to you this summer. You may bring in a paper, but make eye contact and don't read off of it entirely.

We look forward to seeing your performances! Show us what you like and what you think you're good at. Good luck to all. :)

Stuy Speech has been SLAYING at the last few tournaments of the season!

"Swish swish, bish." Shoutout to former Extemp Captain Teresa Chen ('15) for judging for us! Here are our results from NCFLs:
