The brute and the banker go to the second round - Mobilise in the streets and for the legislative elections! 04/24/2017

Yesterday, xenophobe ultra right-winger Le Pen and neoliberal ex-banker Macron won the first round in the French elections and will face off for the presidency in two weeks. Meanwhile, Mélenchon and his "Rebellious France" movement had a big upsurge in popularity, winning almost 20% of the vote with a left, anti-austerity program.
Parallels can be drawn to the 2016 US election. Macron represents the establishment and the politics in favor of big business and the banks, Le Pen is a nationalist demagogue who talks of protecting French workers by keeping immigrants out; neither provides a way out of the economic and social instability hitting France since the 2008 crisis.

But, "regardless of the result, this campaign represents an historic opportunity to galvanise the forces of the Left and pose a genuine alternative to the reactionary policies of both Le Pen and Macron. If, post-election, Mélenchon is able to transform his campaign into a vast political movement, organised around a socialist programme to transform society, the result will be an important step forward, not only for the workers of France but all of Europe."

The brute and the banker go to the second round - Mobilise in the streets and for the legislative elections! This is a statement by Révolution, the French section of the International Marxist Tendency issued as soon as the results of the first round of the presidential election were known.

United Airlines: The Face of Monopoly Capitalism 04/13/2017

"Nearly 70% of the airline industry is in the hands of four companies: American, Delta, Southwest, and United—the latter alone accounting for a market share of 14.5%. With their enormous capital, these companies are often the only option for passengers traveling to smaller cities via connected flights. Considering United’s plans to aggressively expand, their position is not going to be determined by the opinions of their passengers, who are treated as nothing but a means of obtaining profit, but by the whims of their investors. The need to guarantee profits by selling in excess of supply is why the practice of overbooking is so prevalent, and why customers are contractually required to accept their forced removal from the plane. It is then perfectly sensible, within the logic of the system, that the initial reaction of the stock market was to reward United, via more stock purchases, for brutalizing one of its passengers."

United Airlines: The Face of Monopoly Capitalism On Sunday, April 9th, United Airlines sparked a wave of outrage by forcibly disembarking an elderly Asian-American doctor after management overbooked the flight, literally dragging him out of the plane with his face bloodied.

Defeating Trump's 03/18/2017

"The recent intensification of anti-immigrant rhetoric and growth of far-right populism in various countries is ultimately a reflection of the impasse of the capitalist system. Given capitalism’s inability to create jobs, the xenophobic ravings of the far right provide an increasingly useful cover and detract attention from the contradictions inherent to the capitalist system itself."

Defeating Trump's In his first weeks in office, Trump has put 11 million undocumented workers in the crosshairs. Forced to live on the margins of a society which would not function without their labor, Trump’s provocations have merely brought the excruciating nightmare of a huge layer of the US working class into bro...

"If we have chosen the position in life in which we can most of all work for mankind, no burdens can bow us down, because they are sacrifices for the benefit of all; then we shall experience no petty, limited, selfish joy, but our happiness will belong to millions, our deeds will live on quietly but perpetually at work, and over our ashes will be shed the hot tears of noble people." - Young Marx
