“I felt really good because I did something I wanted to do.”
-Joe R.

Employment program participant Joe R. recently received a certificate of completion from GameU after successfully completing their four-year STEAM-based training. The hands-on training included sessions on Power Point and Excel, as well as G-Suite programs, web programming and 3-D design.

“I really like getting a chance to use the computer more,” he says, noting that he hopes it will help him in his job search. Joe previously worked in a warehouse for a lighting company and his job coach, Lily Howard says he’d be an asset to any company.

“He’s very invested in being a good employee and contributing to the team,” she says. “He’s dedicated, and just awesome to be around and he really contributes to the culture.”

Participants and support staff from Job Path’s Supported Living program enjoyed a showing of the bio-pic “Michael” recently after Job Path rented out a theater for a matinee. Participant Erica P. gave it 5 out of 5 stars.

“It was really nice. I had a great time. I was dancing and singing,” she said. Asked for a rendition of her favorite hit she sang the chorus of “Beat It” like a pro. It was definitely a “Thriller” of an afternoon!

It’s season, so congrats to all the grads out there - including Job Path’s own Karina Moreno, who earned her Masters in Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Southern Connecticut State University. She plans to obtain her Licensed Professional Counselor license after she passes the exam and finishes her internship hours.

Moreno has been with Job Path for 13 years and is a Compliance Manager for our Employment Program. We love how all of our staff shine and bring that light back to their work here for New Yorkers with autism and other developmental disabilities!

In honor of May as , we’re happy to share this snapshot of our weekly Meditation group. Meetings start with a check-in where members can share how they’re feeling, and this week’s included a guided meditation by group leader Russell Hill, set to soothing music. We hope you can also take some time this week to take care of yourself!

Job Path recently presented at the Lavelle School For The Blind "Journey Beyond Lavelle" day where participants talked about their employment stories and connected with students.

Brian P, seen here third from the right, said students' questions showed their talent and potential.

"It showed they can be who they want to be and achieve the goals that they set their minds to. The school's atmosphere was nice and the staff were friendly. Overall, it was a great experience going to the school and engaging with the youth as a mentor and meeting them at their level."
