PLEASE READ THE STATEMENT FROM PRIYA & JOAN.
Every week, on Follow Me Friday with Joan & Priya, Joan and I get together to talk about important business topics, laugh a little and discuss important issues in the news. We make an effort at the beginning of every show to check in on what's on our hearts and minds. In the wake of George Floyd's death it's important we have discussions about what happened, what this means to the black community, what it means to our communities at-large, and discuss how protests are addressing systematic racism and the generational pain experienced by the black community. Therefore, we are making this statement in lieu of a LIVE Follow Me Friday with Joan & Priya episode this week.
Instead, we ask you to continue to protest peacefully, to not align yourself with rioters destroying our cities and local businesses, and to look for other ways to make your voice heard. We know this work will not stop racial inequality today, but as we have these discussions with each other, research what systematic racism means, use our voices to protest the systematic racism and VOTE for what and who reflects our values this election season only then can we see CHANGE.
We've included in this post summary a list of things you can do to help. Remember to stay safe and to stand up for what you believe in.
Love, Priya & Joan

---------------------
Here is what you can do to help:
1. Protest peacefully using a mask. COVID-19 is still around. Protect yourself and other protesters.
2. If you have disposable income donate (or sign petitions). Here are some causes:
*George Floyd Go Fund Me
https://www.gofundme.com/f/georgefloyd
*Ahmaud Arbery Go Fund Me (killed on February 23rd - jogging while black)
https://www.gofundme.com/f/i-run-with-maud
*Breonna Taylor Change.org petition (gunned down in her home under a No-Knock Warrant)
https://www.change.org/p/andy-beshear-justice-for-breonna-taylor?use_react=false
*Minnesota Freedom Fund
https://minnesotafreedomfund.org/
*My Brother's Keeper Alliance (started by the Obama family for boys and young men of color)
https://www.obama.org/mbka/
*Fair Fight (started by Stacey Abrams - to protect voting rights) https://fairfight.com/
3. Create an online video or post encouraging others to speak up against systematic racism.
4. Keep your friends and family informed. Have those difficult discussions about what it means to have white privilege.
5. Know your rights and your history. Read the constitution and read up on laws protecting against discrimination and injustice.
6. Call your local politicians and demand justice!
