So many requests for our final group of parent clients for 2027 preschool and K-12 admissions says more about the admissions climate right now than us.
Now is time of year when we caution all new 2027 parent clients about the disadvatages of applying to or attending a for-profit K-12 school in NYC and elsewhere.
Private for-profit K-12 schools prioritize financial returns, which can lead to compromises in educational quality. Major disadvantages include diminished resources for student programs, lower teacher salaries, higher hidden costs, less regulatory oversight regarding curriculum, and a student body that may lack socio-economic diversity.Key disadvantages to consider:Prioritization of Profit: Unlike non-profit institutions that reinvest all revenue back into the school, for-profit entities allocate portions of their budget to shareholders or owners. This can directly reduce the money available for updated technology, libraries, and facility maintenance.
Teacher Qualifications and Turnover: To maximize margins, these schools may hire less experienced or uncertified educators and offer lower salaries, which can lead to higher teacher turnover and impact the overall quality of instruction.Hidden Costs and
Fees: Base tuition often excludes mandatory fees for registration, textbooks, uniforms, and extracurriculars, making the true cost of attendance significantly higher than advertised.Lack of
Regulatory Oversight: Some for-profit schools are subjected to less state regulation. They may lack state accreditation or skip the rigorous reporting requirements that non-profit and public schools maintain.
Less Inclusive Environment: For-profit schools are not required to provide special education services. Furthermore, tuition costs create a barrier to entry, resulting in a less diverse student population that may not reflect the socio-economic realities of the broader world.
Corporate Agendas over Student Needs: Educational decisions, such as class sizes, course offerings, and disciplinary policies, can sometimes be driven by what is best for the bottom line rather than what is best for the student.
he press and media keep saying 2026 (this coming September) was "most" brutally competitive admissions cycle for private school in NYC history. What a joke: it was so easy compared to what 2027 is going to turn out to be......
Stunned by the sheer number of parents clients we are working with for 2027 admissions from preschool through day and boardinh high school. Almost every parent has the same concern about independent schools, from todddler groups through top tier prep and boarding schools and beyond the academics. That concern is security at the schools.

US students performing worse in school than 10 years ago: Report A new report suggests U.S. students are performing worse than their peers from a decade ago.
Spring K-12 school tours are packed!!
2027 admissions evoliving as the most competitive cycle ever.
It's very simple. And many people still don't get it even after the college admissions scandal of several years ago.
What is admissions cheating from preschool through graduate school and what is not cheating?
Cheating:
1. Paying a school or anyone connected to a school (preschool through graduate school) to literally purchase a spot for a student at that school.
2. Lying about, misrepresenting or manipulating any of the following: grades, test scores, athletic achievement, extracurricular activities
Not cheating:
1. Making a donation to a school or college of any amount at any time AFTER a student is admitted and attends and NEVER before.
2. Having a board member or other(s) recommend a student for admission.
