Babson's Social Impact Club will be hosting the Take Action Now Summit on March 3rd. There, students will hear the stories of extraordinary change-makers on how they're creating positive social change. Speakers include Fortune 500 advisor Yulkendy Valdez, Waku Founder Juan Giraldo, and Syrian refugee crisis author Sarah Little. Beyond just 'what' they do, these speakers will share the deepest aspects of their thought process, diving into their 'whys' and 'hows'.

Students will gain an incredibly practical understanding of how they can emulate these change-makers and ignite change themselves. Through this, they will learn how to incorporate social impact into their business education.

Also, we will be collaborating with CCD, GLO, and CSSA to host this event. Free food from Gari, Lemon Thai, and U&D will be provided!

[BIAA Spotlight- Week 4]
"Nayuki is one of the most popular Chinese companies in the food and drink industry. It was founded in Shen Zhen in November 2015. Until today, Nayuki has directly managed more than 50+ stores in several main cities. It finished its 100 billion rmb A round funding in 2016. Nayuki is famous at its feature products and spatial experience. Soft European bread is a trendy product in China, and Nayuki is the original inventors of this type of breads in this market. Besides our products, we have more than 200 square meter spatial experience plus unique design for each stores to provide our guests with a great environment and customer experience.
I am the project manager within the marketing department since June 2017 until today (long-distance). During the summer, I managed more than 10 marketing events and short/long-term projects. I provide the blueprint for each events and allocate different tasks amongst my group members — assign works for designer, copywriter, photographer, and members from Finance, Operation, Purchasing, IT departments. Also, I am responsible for negotiating and establishing.
The most important thing I learned in Nayuki is that a good manager needs a wholistic vision, which means to plan everything ahead and be detail-oriented." -Chloe Zhang 18'

[BIAA Spotlight- Week 3]
"I have interned in several companies in Singapore. Respecting the hierarchy and deadlines are a crucial element to most workers there. Always keeping up with emails in a formal manner is essential. It is always expected of you to work harder than you are paid because there is always someone more hard-working out there. Hence, do the best you can and employers appreciate that. Locals often speak in a colloquial language known as Singlish. Google some videos of certain phrases so that you are not totally lost if people switch to the local tongue.

Work ethic is prized generally. For example, if you are unwell, you are expected to email the respective needful in the morning or the night before and produce a medical certificate as proof as soon as you can.

Because of the weather, the dress code is not as formal as most other countries. So, Blazers are not a requirement. I would, however, recommend keeping a work jacket as they keep their offices well air-conditioned." -Ashmita Padia '19

[BIAA Spotlight- Week 2]

"Hi! My name is Eric Rakphongphairoj, and a summer ago I interned at Ogilvy and Mather in Bangkok, Thailand.
I was lucky enough to be accepted into the Brand Union (branding) department, and, through this internship program, I was blessed to be surrounded by like-minded individuals, both the interns and the existing employees, who have all been incredibly helpful and insightful to my learning of the real, hands-on branding process. I was placed into a team with a senior account executive and a planner, who were very patient in teaching me how to professionally interact with the clients and how to impress them with my work. They also gave me very insightful comments on my work and taught me to be resilient and strong, even when under immense pressure. The most important lesson that I have learned would be that a marketing/branding job is not as chill and pretty as many would think, as compared to finance and accounting jobs. The employees in my department work days and nights, sometimes till the following morning, to ensure that the quality of their work is as optimal as it could possibly be. Having worked here, I am now convinced that marketing/branding is the career path that I am truly passionate." -Eric Rakphongphairoj 18'

[BIAA Spotlight- Week 1] We are excited to announce that BIAA will be introducing fellow students who have interned in Asia to share their experiences with you. Through the weekly posts, we hope to educate students on the experiences of interning in different regions of Asia.

"My name is Sara Yunya Wuchen, I'm a Senior at Babson from Spain but my parents are Chinese origin.
This summer I Interned at Keiretsu Forum (a well-known U.S valley based angel and Private equity) in Singapore for 5 months. The internship program allowed me to build extensive connections with different VC/PE players in countries across Asia, learned how to conduct financial due diligence and allowed me to understand the thought process of the big money players when screening companies to invest. I had an AWESOME boss who was supportive and was able to write me a strong recommendation letter at the end, which helped me to obtain my current part-time in Boston.
The biggest takeaway I got from this internship is DETAIL ORIENTATION. You need to be very careful and very detailed in doing your work, your boss WILL notice the smallest effort you put into your project and always try to revise at least three times before you turn in your project as mistakes in a PE fund is not allowed. You also need to be detail oriented in terms of networking. Always be humble and sincere when talking to your competitors or potential clients. I know that people often think that networking is a very forceful thing, it is actually not. As long as you talk genuinely and not afraid to express your opinions, people will respect and be willing to connect with you." -- Sara Wuchen18'
