Did you miss this week's episode of *The Spiritually Curious Therapist*?
One of the most powerful moments in my conversation with Jessica Maitri came when we explored the difference between understanding our healing and experiencing it.
Many of us can explain our patterns.
We can tell the story.
We can understand why we feel the way we do.
And yet... nothing changes.
What if the missing piece isn't more insight?
What if healing happens when we create a new experience in the body?
In this episode, Jessica and I dive into trauma healing, nervous system regulation, embodiment, intuition, brainspotting, yoga therapy, and the story behind the 3 AM downloads that inspired her groundbreaking work.

Curious about Reiki in psychotherapy?? You won’t want to miss this. Not to mention all of the other amazing folks who will be participating in this summit. https://www.facebook.com/share/p/195pYpgqx2/?mibextid=wwXIfr
What if the healing space itself is a clinical tool?
📣Meet another of our wonderful main stage speakers- Jodi Silverman on Reiki-Assisted Psychotherapy
Jodi Silverman, LCSW, Brainspotting Practitioner, Reiki Master/Teacher, works at the intersection of somatics, neuroplastic healing, and energy-based approaches. She's the co-creator of The Third Presence: Reiki-Assisted Psychotherapy and the creator of the From Lock to Liberation framework.
Her session at the summit is an experiential introduction to how subtle energy and embodied awareness deepen therapeutic connection, grounded in nervous system science, predictive processing, and Pain Reprocessing Therapy. You'll practice presence, connect body and mind, and explore what it means to offer a space that feels genuinely safe.
The session meets each nervous system where it is. Including yours.

This one stopped me mid-conversation.
So much of what we call trauma is rooted in moments where choice was taken away.
Where the body didn’t get to say no.
Where what happened was out of our control.
And so much of healing is about slowly, gently, consistently returning that choice.
Not pushing. Not rushing. Just offering the option and following what the person’s system says it needs.
Jessica Maitri is a therapist, brainspotting consultant, and yoga therapist who has been doing exactly this in her practice for years.
Her full conversation is on the podcast now.

It's here!
🎙️ *Getting Out of the Way: Jessica Maitri on Trauma, Intuition, and the 3 AM Download That Changed Everything*
Jessica Maitri is a therapist, brainspotting consultant, yoga therapist, and creator of the Yothera Method. In this conversation, we explore a question that has been showing up again and again in my own work:
What if healing isn't something we make happen?
We talk about:
✨ Therapist burnout
✨ Trauma and the nervous system
✨ Why insight alone isn't always enough
✨ The wisdom of the body
✨ Letting go of the healing agenda
✨ The unexpected 3 AM downloads that led Jessica to create an entirely new therapeutic approach
If you've ever felt like you understand your patterns but still feel stuck, this episode is for you.

Plot twist...
Last week I promised a new episode and then life had other plans. 😊
But tomorrow, I have a conversation I'm genuinely excited to share.
My guest, Jessica Maitri, and I explore what happens when healing moves beyond insight and into embodiment. We talk about therapist burnout, trauma, nervous system regulation, intuition, brainspotting, yoga therapy, and the surprising story of the 3 AM downloads that led Jessica to create her own healing method.
One of my favorite takeaways:
✨ Healing doesn't happen because we force it.
✨ Healing happens when we learn to get out of the way.

What if your nervous system is preparing... not reacting?
Many of us assume our anxiety, overwhelm, hypervigilance, or self-doubt are responses to what's happening right now.
But what if they're actually predictions?
In my work as a therapist, I've spent years helping people understand patterns that often seem irrational on the surface:
• Worrying when everything is okay
• Feeling unsafe in safe relationships
• Bracing for criticism that never comes
• Experiencing symptoms even when nothing appears wrong
What I've come to understand is that our brains are constantly making predictions based on past experiences. Those predictions shape our thoughts, emotions, sensations, and behaviors often before we're even aware of it.
When we view ourselves through this lens, something powerful happens:
We stop asking, "What's wrong with me?"
And begin asking, "What is my nervous system trying to protect me from?"
That shift can change everything.
That's the heart of our new **From Lock to Liberation Newsletter**.
Each week you'll receive:
✨ Nervous system insights grounded in science
✨ Reflections on healing, relationships, and resilience
✨ Practical tools for creating safety and regulation
✨ Compassionate perspectives that help make sense of your experience
Because healing isn't about forcing yourself to change.
It's about understanding the patterns that once protected you and creating the conditions for something new.

EDIT: A quick scheduling update!
Laura's episode will now air on July 6 and trust me, it is worth the wait!
The good news? We have another wonderful episode coming your way this Wednesday, so stay tuned for a late-week drop. 🎙️✨
Thanks for following along on this journey with me.
What if your relationship with your body isn't something you fix, but something you rebuild?
Tomorrow on The Spiritually Curious Therapist, I sit down with Laura Khoudari, author of Lifting Heavy Things, for a conversation that goes far beyond fitness.
We explore:
✨ How strength training became a pathway for trauma healing
✨ Why nervous system regulation doesn't have to look like meditation
✨ The connection between boundaries, desire, and embodiment
✨ What happens when we stop trying to control our bodies and start listening to them
This conversation surprised me in all the best ways.
If you've ever struggled to know what you want, trust your body, or feel at home within yourself, you'll want to tune in.
🎙️ New episode drops tomorrow.

🎙️ Did You Miss It?
One of the most important things I've learned through studying nervous system regulation is this:
The body is always responding to something.
Sometimes it's responding to an injury.
Sometimes it's responding to a threat.
And sometimes it's responding to a prediction.
That idea completely changed the way I think about chronic pain and persistent symptoms.
In my conversation with Georgia Thelen, we explore Pain Reprocessing Therapy and the growing understanding that many chronic symptoms may be driven not by ongoing damage, but by a nervous system that has become stuck in protection mode.
What I find fascinating is how this connects to so many of the embodiment conversations I've been having lately.
Whether we're talking about trauma, intuition, chronic pain, emotions, or healing, the invitation is remarkably similar:
Slow down.
Get curious.
Listen to your body.
Not because your body is broken.
But because it may be communicating something important.

This stopped me mid-conversation.
If you’ve been living with chronic pain for a while, you know the dread.
You wake up wondering if today is going to be bad.
You monitor your body for signs.
You cancel plans just in case.
And what the research on pain reprocessing therapy shows us is that the fear itself, not just the pain, is part of what keeps the cycle going.
Your brain interprets the fear as a signal that the threat is still real.
So it keeps the pain signal turned on.
This isn’t your fault. It’s your nervous system doing exactly what it was designed to do.
It’s just stuck.
And stuck can be unstuck.

Chronic pain is exhausting. And being told “we can’t find anything wrong” after years of trying is its own kind of trauma.
But there’s a reason nothing has worked.
And it’s not because your pain isn’t real.
It’s because most treatments are targeting the wrong thing.
Pain reprocessing therapy, nervous system regulation, and somatic healing work at the level where chronic pain actually lives, which is in the brain’s threat response, not just the tissue.
If you’ve been in the chronic pain world for a while, this week’s episode with Georgia Thelen is going to hit different.
