Monday March 3rd @ 7pm for our Monday night speaker series.
This Monday we welcome Jennifer N. Murphey, she is an attorney based in Oro Valley, Arizona, who has initiated a lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of various federal and state drug control laws. Representing herself, she filed the case against the United States, Attorney General Merrick B. Garland, DEA Administrator Anne Milgram, HHS Secretary Xavier Becerra, FDA Commissioner Robert M. Califf, and Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes. The lawsuit seeks declaratory and injunctive relief, alleging that the Controlled Substances Act (CSA), the Arizona Controlled Substances Act (AZCSA), and international drug control treaties infringe upon her constitutional rights.
Case Background:
Murphey asserts that she personally cultivates, possesses, and uses substances such as psilocybin mushrooms, ayahuasca, iboga, ma*****na, and coca leaves within her home for personal healing and spiritual growth. She contends that the prohibition of these activities under the CSA, AZCSA, and related treaties violates her rights to personal and mental autonomy, free speech, and due process as protected by the U.S. Constitution.
Her case has been taken up the chain of courts through the appeal process and her next hearing is on April 1st. She will talk about the process and how this case could bring real change to the legal status of psychedelic substances if things go well.

King Trumpet Mushrooms (Pleurotus eryngii) – Medicinal Uses
King trumpet mushrooms, also known as king oyster mushrooms, have been studied for their medicinal properties due to their rich composition of bioactive compounds, including polysaccharides, ergothioneine, antioxidants, and statin-like molecules. Here are some of their key potential health benefits:
1. Immune System Support
• Contains β-glucans (beta-glucans), a type of polysaccharide that enhances immune function by activating macrophages and natural killer (NK) cells.
• Antimicrobial properties may help defend against infections.
2. Anti-Inflammatory Effects
• Studies suggest phenolic compounds and polysaccharides in king trumpet mushrooms have anti-inflammatory properties that may help reduce chronic inflammation linked to conditions like arthritis and autoimmune diseases.
3. Cholesterol-Lowering (Heart Health)
• Contains lovastatin-like compounds, which help lower LDL (bad) cholesterol.
• Helps reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases and atherosclerosis.
4. Antioxidant & Anti-Aging Properties
• High in ergothioneine, a powerful antioxidant that protects cells from oxidative stress, potentially reducing the risk of neurodegenerative diseases (e.g., Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s).
• May support skin health by preventing premature aging caused by free radicals.
5. Gut Health & Prebiotic Effects
• Rich in dietary fiber and polysaccharides, which act as prebiotics, feeding beneficial gut bacteria.
• May help improve digestion, reduce gut inflammation, and support a balanced microbiome.
6. Anti-Cancer Potential
• Some studies suggest that king trumpet mushrooms contain bioactive compounds that may slow the growth of certain cancer cells, including breast, lung, and colon cancer.
• The antioxidant and immune-boosting effects may help prevent cancer development.
7. Blood Sugar Regulation (Diabetes Management)
• Polysaccharides in the mushroom may help improve insulin sensitivity and regulate blood glucose levels.
• Potential benefit for diabetes prevention and management.
How to Use King Trumpet Mushrooms Medicinally
• Dietary Consumption: Eat them regularly in soups, stir-fries, or grilled dishes.
• Powder Form: Used in teas, capsules, or smoothies for concentrated benefits.
• Extracts & Supplements: Available as tinctures or capsules for targeted medicinal use.

Turkey Tail (Trametes versicolor) Tincture Extraction Method
Turkey Tail is renowned for immune support, gut health, and potential anti-cancer properties (due to PSK & PSP polysaccharides). A dual extraction method is necessary to maximize these benefits.
Ingredients & Materials:
• Dried Turkey Tail mushrooms (or fresh if available)
• 80-100 proof alcohol (40-50% ABV, vodka or grain alcohol)
• Distilled water
• Glass jars with lids
• Fine strainer or cheesecloth
• Amber dropper bottles for storage
Step-by-Step Dual Extraction Process
Step 1: Alcohol Extraction
1. Chop dried turkey tail mushrooms into small pieces (or grind them).
2. Place mushrooms in a glass jar.
3. Cover completely with 80-100 proof alcohol (1:5 ratio for fresh, 1:4 for dried).
4. Seal the jar and store it in a cool, dark place for 4-6 weeks, shaking daily.
5. After the extraction period, strain the alcohol and set it aside. Do not discard the mushrooms.
Step 2: Water Extraction (Decoction)
1. Take the strained mushrooms from the alcohol extraction and place them in a pot.
2. Add distilled water (about double the volume of mushrooms).
3. Simmer gently (not boil) for 2-3 hours, reducing liquid by half.
4. Let it cool, then strain the liquid.
Step 3: Combining the Extracts
1. Mix 2 parts alcohol extract with 1 part water extract.
2. Stir well and transfer the tincture into amber dropper bottles.
Dosage & Usage
• General immune support: 1-2 droppers full (1-2 ml) per day.
• Therapeutic purposes (e.g., gut health, adjunct cancer support): Up to 3 droppers full per day (consult a healthcare professional).
