We did it again!

Thanks to the actions of hundreds of USW members, the House passed H.R. 5408, the Faster Labor Contracts Act, by a vote of 230-193.

This is a major victory for workers and proof that when we fight, we win. But the work isn’t over, now it’s time for the Senate to act and ensure workers can secure a fair first contract.

Yesterday, our District 10 Rapid Response Coordinator Don T***s joined a House Labor Committee meeting and press conference to support HB 1850, legislation to help protect workers from extreme heat.

The bill would require employers to provide heat illness prevention plans, including water, shade, paid rest breaks, education, and emergency response training.

Every worker deserves a safe workplace. As temperatures rise, we must prevent heat-related injuries and illnesses.

Workers who vote to form a union deserve a fair first contract, not endless delays and union-busting tactics.

Right now, it takes an average of 465 days to reach a first contract. H.R. 5408, the Faster Labor Contracts Act, would help stop employers from stalling negotiations and ensure workers have a real path to securing the wages, benefits, and protections they fought for.

When workers organize for better wages, safer workplaces, stronger benefits, and a voice on the job, the law should protect that fight not allow companies to run out the clock.

Today, we honor and remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country. Memorial Day is more than a long weekend, it is a time to reflect on the courage, dedication, and sacrifice of those who gave their lives for the freedoms we enjoy every day.

The USW Rapid Response family stands in gratitude with the military families, veterans, and communities carrying the weight of that sacrifice. We remember the fallen, honor their legacy, and recommit ourselves to fighting for a country that values service, justice, and working families.

Health and safety are union issues and this week, Steelworkers came together in Pittsburgh for the 2026 USW Health, Safety & Environment Conference.

From workplace hazards and mental health to environmental protections and emergency preparedness, members participated in workshops and discussions focused on protecting workers on and off the job.

When workers have a voice, workplaces are safer. Strong unions save lives.
