Did you know...about "mahjong epilepsy"?? 😱 Here's a great excuse for taking many 🍷🍜🥟 breaks while playing! In 2007, the Hong Kong Medical Journal published a study of patients experiencing seizures triggered by playing mahjong for extended periods of time. The study's authors noted "the cognitive demands required to play mahjong - concentration, calculations and reasoning - may have contributed to these symptoms". (Reader's Digest Canada)

Did you know...playing Mahjong can help improve cognitive function! Studies have found that elderly patients who played Mahjong regularly showed improved executive function, including memory, planning and organization, and the ability to do daily activities. This research, published in 2020 by Frontiers in Neurology, builds upon previous findings by The International Journal of Geriatric Psychology, which found playing Mahjong regularly had the potential to improve memory in patients with mild to moderate dementia.
