Design aesthetics for digital spaces doesn’t have to be all cold cyberspace and/or neo-noir punk sensibilities. Nostalgic AND new: one of the websites featured on my recently updated portfolio is both of these things, as it’s a brand new design but based on the embroidery kit Etsy business I ran with my sister a few years ago.

Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson once said in an interview that when he started acting in movies, his goal was to have a career ‘like Will Smith, but bigger and better’. That’s the ambition I’m bringing to my new era of Kiwi Online Marketing except instead of aiming for Will Smith levels, I’m looking to have a bigger and better year than I personally did last year. I got engaged last year, though, so that’s actually maybe kinda Will Smith levels anyway. It was a good year!

I am seriously a little obsessed with professional wrestler’s career trajectories though and tracking their personal brand marketing outside the ring. Stone Cold Steve Austin is by far the best to follow on Instagram nowadays with his kitty cat updates - no surprise, I know, because it’s Stone Cold, come on. But Dwayne has everyone beat with just sheer saturation and recognizability. Talk about marketing goalssss.

Now you must endure seeing it so much that it becomes impressed upon your mind, forever entwined with the concept of ‘easy DIY website’ (that’s a spoiler for what my new focus is!
