| A Supply Chain Professional Who Demonstrates Leadership by Contributing to Her Cultural Heritage

When Claudia Sanchez joined the Foster MSCM program she had experience in exporting Mexican consumer products to the US market. She and her expertise were sought after by Foster MS Entrepreneurship student Suleiny Altamirano who founded Tizana Mexicana, a platform dedicated to showcasing the talents of Mexican artisans. Suleiny and their team needed someone to coordinate the logistics of importing and Claudia was a good fit.

Their project made its way into the second round of the Dempsey Startup Competition, where it will compete with 36 other projects. The Dempsey Startup Competition is an event organized by Foster's Burke Center for Entrepreneurship, a hub that nurtures entrepreneurial ideas and facilitates networking opportunities.

| Students' Visit to the Port of Seattle

Earlier this month, our students had the opportunity to visit the Port of Seattle. Seattle is a top export gateway and the port performs a critical function in U.S. international trade. A large percentage of cargo crosses Seattle's docks and is bound for Midwest and East Coast.
Our students got to see how things happen up close and learn about Seattle's major role in our Global Supply Chain. These site visits would not be possible without our Industry partners!

What better way to kick off the summer and network than with a BBQ on campus?

We had an amazing BBQ on campus this week! It was a great opportunity for the staff, faculty, and students from Foster to get together and enjoy some delicious food while soaking up the sun.

Congratulations to our MSCM students who have completed their Enterprise Systems and Digital Transformation course!

Throughout the course, our students learned how to apply theoretical frameworks to transform supply chains digitally and identify and implement key digital supply chain capabilities. They have also gained hands-on skills in using enterprise systems to digitalize supply chain processes.

We’re proud of all the hard work and dedication our students have shown and can’t wait to see the amazing things they’ll accomplish in the future. Well done, everyone!

What is it like to sign on with a staffing agency and work as a contractor? Last Friday, our Career Services team invited experienced recruiters and alumni to share with us the pros and cons of working as a contractor. Our speakers were:

Dave Choi - recruiter from Insight Global
Soumik Chakraborty - an MSIS alum ('19) who is a Microsoft product manager. He started his career in the US as a contractor after graduation.

| The Final Class of Special Topics in Supply Chain Management

Yesterday, our students gave their final presentation for the Special Topics in Supply Chain Management class. They were instructed to provide examples of sustainability initiatives undertaken by companies. Our students learned to conduct an analysis based on three pillars (planet, people, or profit) and propose solutions to advance a sustainable supply chain.

Zhihua Wang| MSCM 2020| Assistant Manager, Post Order Operations @ Adidas

A journey that’s led by passion and expertise.

Zhihua completed a bachelor’s degree in Operations Management in China. His strong passion for sports drove him to UW to acquire a supply chain management degree and find opportunities in the sports and athletic industry.

Looking back at his time at Foster, Zhihua values the strong alumni network, the solid training in supply chain operation, and the school spirit around campus sports!

| Impact of Supply Chain Transparency on Sustainability under NGO Scrutiny

Supply chain management is key in driving sustainable development for the environment, the society and the economy. Our faculty,Yong-Pin Zhou and Shi Chen, and industrial leader, Qinqin Zhang, co-authored the paper Impact of Supply Chain Transparency on Sustainability under NGO Scrutiny to discuss the possibility where the supply chain sustainability, transparency, and the economic objectives of the buyer, the suppliers, and the NGOs can be improved simultaneously.

🎯Mock Interview with Industry Leaders

Last week, Foster MSCM alumni and instrustry partners gathered from leading companies, including The Boeing Company, Amazon.com , Amazon Web Services , Space and Nike and conducted mock interviews with our Supply Chain students who are eager to enter the job force.

Through the interviews and workshops, our students gained insights into what is expected in the current job market, how to demonstrate their strengths best, and identified improvement areas. With the strong connection with the community and our students’ ambition, we are excited to see how our students are one step closer to their career goals.
