Research and Conference Reimbursement Grant (RCRG)

Dear Redhawks,

I hope you are all having a great start to the quarter! The Graduate Student Council is committed to advocating for all graduate students and providing services to assist in professional development. One of the well-known services that GSC provides is research and conference funding. The GSC budget allows for allocations to SU graduate students for personal and academic development.

As graduate students, scholarly research and conference presentations are integral in masters/doctoral degrees and play an important role in academic growth and development by providing opportunities for training, networking, and exposure to the latest research; therefore, GSC established a fund to award individual reimbursement grants to assist graduate students in conference attendance and research presentations.

The purpose of the GSC Research and Conference Reimbursement Grant (RCRG) is to support and facilitate graduate research and professional formation through attendance of conferences. The program is designed to help offset the costs associated with scholarly research and conference attendance that are not directly funded by other agencies, schools/departments within the university, or grants to advising faculty members.

Applications for the 2021-2021 RCRG are officially open through the GSC ConnectSU Webpage!

With consideration from the Executive Board and the GSC Finance Committee, we are excited to announce that we have increased the Research and Conference Reimbursement Funding line item in our annual operating budget by 43% to assist more graduate students. For this academic year, applicants may be awarded an amount of up to $650 in reimbursements, per student, per academic year.

Please carefully review the RCRG operating policy as guidelines have changed.

GSC funding comes directly from the student activity fee and our goal as the executive board is to provide new opportunities and outreach to as many graduate students, especially to students seeking additional support. The intent of this program is to acknowledge the extraordinary work of graduate students, promote community engagement and collaboration, and uphold the mission and values of Seattle University. On behalf of GSC, we would like to extend a warm invitation to The Scooty Fund and Seattle University's upcoming event, Graduate Students & Mental Health: Prioritizing What's Important, which will take place on September 29th, 2021. The event will examine mental, emotional, and relational wellness as it applies to graduate students in a variety of disciplines. Panel participants will share their diverse personal experiences and professional knowledge to provide a comprehensive discussion of this important topic. Feel free to share with others who you think may be interested, particularly folks working in mental health and with their communities.

We want to thank our GSC Advisor, Michelle Harper-Kowalczyk, on her last day at Seattle University!

Michelle has been working with the Center for Student Involvement for 5 years as the GSC and SGSU advisor. She has built a legacy on campus and has made incredible contributions to the Seattle U community.
