In 1886, nursing had no licensing, no standards, and no formal recognition as a profession.
Our founding sisters built this college anyway.
140 years later, nurses are leading health systems, conducting groundbreaking research, and sitting at the table where the future of healthcare is decided.
That transformation happened because of people who refused to see nursing as anything less than what it truly is — one of the most powerful, innovative, and essential professions in the world.
St. John's College of Nursing has been part of that story for all 140 years.
Here's to 140 more. 💙

140 years after our founding, St. John's College of Nursing stands as a testament to what happens when mission meets excellence and refuses to stop evolving.
Today, SJCN graduates are leading healthcare systems, conducting research, shaping policy, and transforming communities. Not just caring for patients but changing the conditions that affect their health.
Nursing is not a supporting role. It never has been.
That is what 140 years of St. John's College of Nursing looks like.
To every graduate, faculty member, and community partner who has been part of this journey — this milestone is yours.

June is Men's Health Month, and nurses are at the center of it.
Nurses are often the first person a patient really talks to about their health. They answer questions, explain what a diagnosis actually means, connect people to the right resources, and follow up when life gets in the way of good intentions.
For men, who statistically tend to put off preventive care longer than they should, that relationship matters. A nurse who asks the right question at the right time can move someone from "I'll deal with it later" to "let's handle this now." That is not a small thing.
It is also one of the most rewarding parts of the work. Nursing is not just clinical skill. It is the ability to meet people where they are and help them take better care of themselves.
Nurses do a lot of things. One of the most important is helping people actually take care of themselves.
During Men's Health Month, that role is worth highlighting. Men tend to delay preventive care more than they should, and nurses are often the ones who bridge that gap. They educate, follow up, and ask the questions that move someone from putting it off to doing something about it.
It is meaningful, people-centered care. And it is what we train nurses to do at St. John's College of Nursing.
