Today, The Whitfield School is closed in observance of Juneteenth.
Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865, when news of emancipation reached enslaved people in Texas, and is recognized as a day to reflect on the enduring significance of freedom in American history.
We wish our community a meaningful Juneteenth.

During the final week of school, Dusty and his committee of student volunteers handed out pup cups in the carpool line, bringing plenty of smiles and wagging tails to the end of the day.
A sweet treat for our four-legged visitors and a fun way to wrap up another memorable year at Whitfield.

What happens when students are given the freedom to pursue a question that genuinely matters to them?
At Whitfield's Senior Capstone Exhibition, the answers were on display.
From mental health and artificial intelligence to entrepreneurship, healthcare, environmental sustainability, and the arts, seniors shared the results of a year-long journey of research, exploration, and real-world learning.
More than a final project, Capstone is a defining Whitfield experience that challenges students to think independently, communicate confidently, and apply their learning beyond the classroom.

At Whitfield's STEM Expo, Engineering a Warrior, students did more than display projects. They shared ideas, answered thoughtful questions, and engaged in authentic conversations about their learning.
The Expo provided an opportunity for students to explore topics that matter to them and communicate their discoveries to an audience beyond the classroom. From initial questions to final presentations, each project reflected the curiosity, creativity, and critical thinking that define the Whitfield experience.
Thank you to everyone who attended, asked questions, and supported our student innovators. Your curiosity and engagement helped make learning visible.

Following Awards Day on May 19, students spread out across campus for an afternoon of laser tag, inflatable obstacle courses, karaoke, esports, board games, arts and crafts, escape rooms, and more. Woods Hall hosted a schoolwide tug of war competition after outdoor events, including kickball, were canceled due to weather.
A fun way to celebrate the end of the year together!

This year, The Whitfield School proudly launched the Missouri Seal of Biliteracy program, recognizing graduating seniors who have demonstrated high levels of proficiency in English and at least one additional language, along with meaningful sociocultural understanding.
Earning the Seal of Biliteracy is a significant academic distinction that reflects years of dedication, intellectual curiosity, and global engagement. Students completed rigorous language assessments, demonstrated advanced communication skills, and explored the connections between language and culture through essays and community-based work.

At Awards Day on Tuesday, May 19, we celebrated three extraordinary members of The Whitfield School community whose impact can be felt in classrooms, hallways, and everyday moments across campus.
Congratulations to Joyce Debenport, recipient of the Janet Esrock Spirit of Whitfield Award; Dr. Anna Warbelow, recipient of the Lola B. Goodwin Building Community Award; and Ms. Megan Wolfslau, recipient of the George A. Newton Outstanding Teacher of the Year Award.
Each honoree reflects a different facet of what makes Whitfield special: care for others, commitment to community, and excellence in teaching and learning. Together, they remind us that the strength of our school is found in the people who shape it each day.
Congratulations to this year’s recipients!

On May 14, the humanities wing at The Whitfield School became an immersive exhibition space for The 2026 Story of America | DNA of a Nation | Citizen, Community, Country.
This interdisciplinary, cross-curricular project brought together work from English, History, and Graphic Design, challenging juniors to explore multiple narratives of America through research, personal interviews, and collaboration. The result: a thoughtful, student-driven experience that invited guests not just to observe, but to participate.
Through installations like “Past Voices,” “Echoes of the Past,” and “Seeking Harmony,” students examined identity, citizenship, and community—then opened the door for others to join the conversation through seminar-style discussions and interactive elements.
More than a final project, this was an exercise in listening, questioning, and contributing to a story that is still being written.
