Today, we recognize Juneteenth, the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States. On June 19, 1865—more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation—enslaved people in Texas finally learned they were free.

Juneteenth is a day to honor Black history, resilience, and the ongoing pursuit of justice, equality, and community. ❤️💛💚

⚠️ REMINDER: Affton Summer Journey and summer school classes are not in session today, and all school and district buildings are closed in observance of the holiday.

📅 Looking Ahead: Classes will resume and buildings will reopen on Monday, June 22. We hope all of our Cougar families have a safe and meaningful weekend!

The Muny (St. Louis) – Center Stage Summer 🎭

Spencer S. (Affton High School senior) is taking his talents to the stage this summer! He is busy performing as part of the talented Muny Teens group. You can also catch him lighting up the stage each evening in Shrek The Musical as part of the Muny Youth Ensemble from June 25 to July 2. We are so incredibly proud to see our students shining bright in the community and doing what they love!

Zayn M. (Mesnier Primary School 2nd grader) made a splash with the ultimate summer staycation! He beat the heat with a refreshing day at the pool alongside a fantastic crew of friends and family: Malikai M. (Rogers Middle School - Affton 6th grader), Troy L. (RMS 6th grader), and Khloe L. (RMS 7th grader). There is nothing quite like soaking up the sunshine, diving into clear blue water, and making sweet summer memories right here at home!

Citrus Hills, Florida – Theme Park & Wildlife Adventures 🐊

Claire T. (Affton High School 10th grader), Evan T. (Rogers Middle School - Affton 6th grader), and Gavin T. (Mesnier Primary School 2nd grader) kicked off their summer with an unforgettable family trip to Citrus Hills, Florida, to visit their grandpa! The trio made the absolute most of the Sunshine State, packing their days with incredible adventures. From the thrill rides at Busch Gardens to a classic Florida airboat ride, they did it all—including swimming and even getting to hold a baby alligator! What an amazing way to make special summer memories with family.

Engineering Success at Summer Journey! 🏗️🥚

Our Rogers Middle School - Affton Cougars are putting their critical thinking skills to the test! During Summer Journey, student teams stepped into the shoes of structural engineers for an exciting challenge: building the tallest freestanding tower capable of holding an egg.

Using the engineering design process, these creative thinkers collaborated, brainstormed, and modified their designs to ensure their structures stood tall and secure. We love seeing our students embrace trial, error, and teamwork to solve complex problems! Way to go, future engineers! 💜💛

Affton School District is pleased to announce the selection of Dr. Amanda Smith as the Interim Assistant Principal for Affton High School for the 2026-27 school year.

Dr. Smith has been an integral part of the Affton community since 2003, serving as a social studies teacher, instructional coach, and department chair. She was also recently honored as the 2026 Affton High School Teacher of the Year.

"I look forward to partnering with students, staff, and families in my role as interim assistant principal to help prepare every Affton student for a successful future," says Dr. Smith.

Help us welcome Chelsea Boyd, selected as Affton’s new Director of Assessment, Federal Programs & Future Readiness for the 2026-27 school year! 🎉

Boyd brings extensive experience as an educational leader, most recently serving as an assistant principal at Seckman High School. She is also a familiar face to some in the district, having previously served as an Affton High School track coach! In her new role, she will focus on strengthening our K-12 career, technical education, and college readiness programs.

"Affton’s commitment to ensuring every student is known, supported, and challenged aligns closely with my own educational philosophy," said Boyd. "I look forward to partnering with students, staff, families, and community members to expand opportunities."
