Our purpose is to create a safe place where students of all ethnicities can discuss race, diversity, and culture.

This upcoming Tuesday is the Black Student Union Open Mic Night in collaboration with NAMI for Mental Illness Awareness Week in Thomas 272 from 6:00-8:00pm. For those who are interested in performing, we will be meeting in Thomas 272 at 5:00pm to go over any logistics.

Hot chocolate, tea, and treats will be provided, and Professor Melvin Rouse will be speaking to give more of a psychological background of mental illness.

This is an amazing opportunity to share poetry, music, or stories!

We look forward to seeing you there!

The Black Student Union at the University of Puget Sound is still accepting submissions for BLK ICE, our literary and arts magazine.

We are looking for visual and written work that pushes boundaries and challenges beliefs surrounding topics of race, blackness, beauty, pride, intersectionality, culture, spirituality & sexuality.

You do not need to be affiliated to the university to submit, nor do you have to be black to talk about race.

Please submit your work to [email protected] by January 26th!

Please feel free to pass the message along!

With Peace & Solidarity,
Nia Henderson
BSU President

Happy birthday, Trayvon Martin. May you continue to rest in power.

When you say Black Lives Matter, remember his name. It was the lack of justice for Trayvon's family that ignited 3 Black women to create the organization.

Every 28 hours, a Black person in the U.S. is killed by a police officer, security, or a self-appointed vigilante.

Martin Luther King Jr. once said, "The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically. Intelligence plus character - that is the goal of true education." In honor of celebrating Dr. King's birthday come to our MLK Celebration tomorrow, January 17th, at 7 pm in the Schneeback hall.
