Providing community for students and early career researchers in the hydrologic sciences

06/19/2026

Our first research spotlight of 2026 features Ally Jacoby!🥳

Ally is a PhD student at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities conducting research on the tropical glaciers and paramo ecosystems of Ecuador!

She combines field measurements with numerical models to better understand glacial retreat on hydrology and carbon cycling while working with indigenous communities.

Wow!!! Thank you to the entire community for your help; we received 302 suggestions. 🎤💧

Now, until June 19th, we would like one last effort from everyone.
Unfortunately, most of the songs are currently in English and Portuguese, with very little representation of other Latin languages, Asian languages, and Autochthonous languages, etc.

Please help us in the mission of building this great water-related playlist for the hydrological community.🌊🌊🌊🎶🎶

Today is 🌎World Environment Day 2026,🌎 and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is putting the spotlight on our biggest challenge: Climate Change.
At AGU H3S, we believe that the best way to fight anthropogenic climate change is to talk about it, not just in journals, but at the dinner table.
📣THE CHALLENGE:📣
Today, take one piece of research (yours or a colleague’s) and explain it to:
🏖A family member,
🏜a friend from a completely different field
🌃someone who has never heard of earth sciences!
Let’s bridge the gap between the lab and the living room!
Who did you talk to today? Tell us in the comments!

How are you using AI tools in your research—or where would you like to start?

The AGU-H3S Professional Development Subcommittee is planning a summer webinar on the applied use of AI tools for research, and we’d love your input.

What tools, methods, or applications would you like to learn more about? Think…
📖literature review
👩‍💻coding
📈data analysis
👀visualization
✍️writing support
🤖workflow automation

Share your thoughts in the comments or anonymously here: https://forms.gle/Y9m7UY6kWRmYGvty8

Your feedback will help us shape a workshop for the H3S community.

At AGU H3S, we’re building a collection of hydrology-related songs (and songs from related fields ). 🎶🎶

The idea is to gather music that can inspire us:
🥾during difficult days in the field
🌊explain hydrological concepts
🧑‍💻or keep us company while responding to Reviewer #2

Please share this with anyone who might be interested!
Help AGU H3S build the ultimate global hydrology soundtrack. 💧💦❄️🎧🎤
