We are excited to partner with the local DC nonprofit organization Horton's Kids next week to meet with their middle schoolers and high schools in Southeast DC to get them thinking abut college and the steps it will take to get there and how we can support! :)

For any nonprofit organization that does not have built-in Impact Measurement or Monitoring and Evaluation personnel or department, to understand how your organization is REALLY having impact beyond the basic impact stats, measuring your short-term and long-term impact can be very difficult if not nearly impossible. Well, thanks to one of ScholarCHIPS' newer individual donors and allies, who submitted a nomination, allowed us to apply for Capital One's Pro Bono Program! We at ScholarCHIPS chose to focus on data and the team helped us come up with such an incredible Alumni Survey to measure the long-term impact the organization has had on young adults with incarcerated parents who come through our program and this is a snapshot of the results! Many thanks to all of our incredible alumni who took the time to fill out the survey and provide us with such invaluable insights and feedback!

We are continuing with the roll call of our fabulous Spring 2026 college graduates at ScholarCHIPS! Please join us in congratulating Miss Temya Jackson Long. She recently graduated from Gateway Community College with nearly a 4.0 in Biomedical Engineering and she will be continuing her education at a Four-Year university! And the cherry on top is that out of 1300 applications, Temya was selected as Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Undergraduate Transfer Scholar! This was one of the scholarship and mentorship programs that completely changed my life and helping me to earn my college education and walk out college debt free!

It's graduation season, one of our favorite times of the year and we are doing a ROLL CALL of our incredible 2026 college graduates at ScholarCHIPS (For Children of Incarcerated Parents)! Major congratulations are in order to Mr. Jerome Hinkle Jr! On May 9, 2026, Jerome graduated with a bachelor's degree in Psychology from the illustrious North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University! With dreams of becoming a counseling psychologist...he is well on his way to making his dreams a reality as he is continuing his education to pursue a Master's in Clinical Mental Health Counseling also at North Carolina A&T, and this summer he will be interning at the FDIC. Congratulations, Jerome! Your ScholarCHIPS family and I are so proud of you!

Thank you for constantly coming back year after year to meet and pour into our new scholars. Onward and upward young leader!

Our scholars absolutely SHINED at the Arizona State University's Center for Child Well Being 8th Annual Children of Incarcerated Parents Conference on April 21st! Our panel theme was "From Separation to ScholarCHIPS: Building Solidarity, Healing and Hope with Children of Incarcerated Parents." Our scholars shared the challenges they have faced having a mom or dad in prison, why they chose the college route and their career aspirations. They also shared how they heard about ScholarCHIPS and why they decided to apply, how ScholarCHIPS has helped them along their college journeys so far and how the organization fosters community, hope and healing! These young scholars' authenticity and courageousness in sharing their stories in empowering ways is truly inspiring as ScholarCHIPS continues to dismantle the stigma and shame around having an incarcerated parent or formerly incarcerated family member!

This year's scholar panelists were:
- Cade Carman - Sophomore at the University of Missouri
- A'Laisha Hall - Sophomore at Florida State University
- Temya Jackson Long - Sophomore at Gateway CC (AZ)
- Chris Sullivan - Sophomore at Florida State University

We want to extend a massive CONGRATULATIONS to ScholarCHIPS (For Children of Incarcerated Parents) scholar, Amir Hood, for making the Honor Roll at Morehouse College for the fourth consecutive time! It takes serious determination, consistency, studying, being present, hard work, and sacrifice to make the Honor Roll once, not to mention 4 semesters in a row! CONGRATULATIONS Amir Hood on this major accomplishment! :) It's hard to believe that you are more than halfway through your undergraduate experience. I continue to be so proud of you as well as your ScholarCHIPS family! Friends, this young man is truly one to watch! We are cheering you on!
