Good morning, Iowa educators! Happy International Workers’ Day! Your NEA Directors are starting our day with union brothers and sisters at the NEA Board meeting. Thank you for the opportunity to represent you at the national level!

The NEA Family has lost a great leader. Our hearts are heavy today.

It is with great sadness that we share former IEA President Reginald “Reg” Weaver, trailblazer for collective bargaining rights in Illinois, passed away on Tuesday at 86.

Reg was an absolute legend. He had a gift at bringing people together and helped transform our union into the powerful force it is today. Reg was the first Black president of the IEA, serving from 1981 to 1987. He later went on to serve as president of the National Education Association, from 2002 to 2008.

Day two of the board meeting is underway! We’ve got everything we need for a successful day: coffee, chocolate, a tiny little flock of flamingos🦩and Josh’s final attempt at heart hands for the week. Happy Valentine’s Day, Iowa! As always, thank you for the trusting us to serve you at the national level!

We had a busy day lobbying on at the Capitol yesterday, but we managed to work in some shenanigans in the process.

Josh and Josh are hard at work lobbying while the rest of us are traveling to DC! Thanks to both of you for working your training schedules so you could make the Ernst Constituent Coffee.

Iowa NEA Director Joshua Baxter and I had the opportunity to join Senator Ernst and other constituents for her weekly coffee. We discussed the importance of funding and programs first our most vulnerable students and the need to have safe and healthy learning and working environments in our school.
