What Do You Do For A DC That Supports Young People?

“We Black folk, our history and our present being are a mirror of all the manifold experiences of America. What we want, what we represent, what we endure is what America is. If we Black folk perish, America will perish.” — Richard Wright

Juneteenth Parade was such a beautiful experience! We love you DC!

Happy Juneteenth From Critical Exposure 🔴🟢

🖤✊🏾 Today we celebrate Juneteenth, a day that represents freedom, resilience, and the enduring power of the human spirit.

On June 19, 1865, two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed, Union soldiers arrived in Galveston, Texas and delivered the news that enslaved people were free. For over 250,000 Black men, women, and children in Texas, that moment changed everything.

But Juneteenth is bigger than one announcement on one day. It’s a testament to what Black Americans have always known: that freedom is worth fighting for, worth celebrating, and worth protecting.

Take today to honor every ancestor!

Today we honor every ancestor who held on. Every freedom fighter who stood up. Every generation that refused to let the dream die.

Happy Juneteenth 🖤🔴🟢

Save the date🍦✊🏾 On July 16th, we’re celebrating Ida B. Wells’ legacy the best way we know how: together, in community.

Join us at Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams (1925 14th St. NW) from 4-7pm for Ice Cream for Ida. This will be a sweet gathering featuring a Critical Exposure mini exhibit honoring the life and legacy of journalist and civil rights activist Ida B. Wells. And while you’re scooping, you’re also giving back. 25% of all ice cream sales during the event will be donated to Critical Exposure.

Come meet the team. See the work. Honor a legend.

RSVP, by commenting IDA, and we will send you the link!

This year has been tough. From budget cuts to curfews to the National Guard continuing to occupy our city, every day can both feel shocking and numbing. Yet, at Critical Exposure, we are constantly awed and inspired by the joy and power of the youth in this city. In times of fear and darkness, their courage and brilliance provide us all hope.

It’s because of their example that we continue to demand a city where our youth are safe, powerful, and free. We have a lot of work to do, and we thank you all for standing with us during this journey. Without the love and support of our community, we couldn’t do this work. This summer, we are raising $5,000 to provide positive, safe experiences for DC youth. Will you help us get there?

Starting June 15th, you can stand with them. Comment YES, to commit to giving, and you’ll get next steps.
