C-section mamas, whether your birth is planned or unexpected, here’s a simple prep tip to help support those early microbiome moments after birth. 🩷

Keep a muslin cloth on your chest during pregnancy and let it naturally pick up your skin’s unique mix of microbes and scent. These friendly microbes play a role in helping your baby begin developing their own healthy microbial community after birth.

When you wrap your newborn in that same muslin, it can offer:
✨ A familiar scent that helps baby feel calm and connected
✨ Early exposure to your natural microflora
✨ A gentle way to support those first bonding moments after a C-section

Soft, simple, and full of love 🩷

Mummies… One of the most supportive things you can do during pregnancy is to play with different labour positions before the big day. 🤰

Every body is different, and what feels good, safe, and supportive for one person may feel completely different for another. Trying out positions during pregnancy helps you discover what feels natural, opens your pelvis comfortably, and supports your breathing. When labour begins, your body will already be familiar with these movements, like muscle memory for birth! 🩷

Confidence grows with familiarity, and comfort in movement can make a big difference on the day your baby arrives. ✨

Share with me in the comments which labour position you might be using on the big day 🩷

These are some of the things I recommend most mums to include in her hospital bag—whether you’re planning a C-section or not. Being prepared for the unexpected can bring a sense of calm and confidence, allowing you to focus on what truly matters: welcoming your little one and taking care of yourself and a little thoughtful packing can make all the difference in making your journey smoother and more comfortable! 💖

✔️ Chewing gum
✔️ Hand warmers
✔️ Peppermint tea
✔️ Lose & flowy clothing

✨Visualisations during pregnancy and birth✨

Positive images and affirmations can help nurture your ‘mental map’ around pregnancy and birth. When we consciously focus on something we activate brain processes that look for things associated to it.

This influences how you perceive and respond to the world…. Your focus can change your thoughts, your inner narratives and your experience!

For example, when we consistently visualise positive birth experiences, we reduce the overreaction of our amygdala - which studies have shown can reduce our perception of pain. 🧠

If you practice visualizing your birth as a beautiful and fulfilling experience you will support your mind and body to make it happen. 💖✨🧘‍♀️

🌟 Congratulations to Hannah Marsh on the release of her incredible book, Thread! 🎉✨
Hannah, your courage and honesty in sharing and reflecting on your challenging birth story is truly inspiring. For so many women your story will resonate- when a hoped for vaginal birth changes direction to an emergency caesarean.

As a healing process, Hannah reflects on her physical and emotional journey alongside historical perspectives of caesarean up to the present day. She found records dating back to 1826 of a challenging caesarean section in South Africa, where both mother and baby survived. She also explored, caesarean section in modern times: the Natural (gentle) Caesarean: a women centred technique, which is now widely practiced and places the parents at the centre of their birth experience.

Thank you, Hannah, for sharing your experience and encouraging more stories of resilience, healing, and connection. 📖💖

The first days after birth are full of surprises — some wonderful, some a little unexpected. I asked some amazing mums to share what caught them off guard in the first days after birth, and I love how their stories remind us that every experience is unique! 💕

My advice… Expect the unexpected. Embracing the unknown can make all the difference and be a source of strength and comfort. 💛. After all, it’s in those unanticipated moments that we often find growth and joy. 💖 Whether it’s the wild range of emotions, a funny story, or simply discovering new parts of yourself, these surprises are all part of your unique beautiful journey.

What totally unexpected moment did you experience after birth? Share your stories in the comments! 🩷👇

✨Motherhood is a beautiful journey, but let’s be real — it also comes with challenges, especially after birth.✨

In this reel, I share my own experience as a midwife and new mom, feeling like I didn’t know anything—even when I was supposed to! 🙈🤱

To all the mummies out there feeling overwhelmed or unsure: You’re not alone, and it’s okay to not have all the answers. Every challenge is part of your unique journey, and growth comes through them. 💪💖

Remember, it’s okay to ask for help and trust in your strength. You’ve got this! 🌟

After the long journey of pregnancy your uterus needs some time to recover. For most women a big part of the healing will happen in the first 6-8 weeks. Whilst your uterus is shrinking back to it’s usual size you might experience cramps, vaginal bleeding, hormonal shifts, soreness and other symptoms. During this time there are many things that can support your uterus to heal… swap right to find some of my recommendations 🩷.

Next week we are starting a new group and I couldn’t be more excited! ❤️ This class will take a new approach to antenatal classes… It is a fluid class where we will discuss topics from where group members are standing, your doubts, choices, and paths. Throughout my many years as a midwife I have come across so many parents-to-be that felt the courses they took did no go too much in depth and had lots of information yet hard to absorb. This new group is going to be a space with conversations that explore deeper your pregnancy journey! Come and join us from 4 September at Serenity Space.

We have a special first class promo available! Comment “Baby on Board” and I will send you more info! 💕

You can also send me a DM with any of your questions about the group ✉️
