Government Hails Eden University for Shaping Future Diplomats

Ministry of Foreign Affairs Permanent Secretary for International Relations and Cooperation, Ms. Etambuyu Anamela Gundersen, has officially opened the Emerge–Eden International Model United Nations (MUN) Conference 2026, commending the initiative hosted by Eden University for its role in shaping future leaders in diplomacy and international relations.

Ms. Gundersen said the conference provides a valuable platform for young people to strengthen their understanding of global diplomacy, consensus-building, and the core principles that guide the United Nations system.

She noted that Government supports such initiatives, as they enhance youth participation in national, regional, and global decision-making processes.

United Nations Resident Coordinator Seth Broekman, described the gathering as more than a simulation, calling it a “training ground for diplomacy.” He said the experience equips participants with critical skills needed to navigate a world increasingly affected by polarization, misinformation, and declining public trust.

And Eden University Vice Chancellor, Dr. Alvert Ng’andu, reaffirmed Eden University’s commitment to providing platforms that empower young people and promote global citizenship through academic and experiential learning opportunities.

The conference, running under the theme “Beyond 2030: Rethinking Global Cooperation in a Polarized World,” brings together young delegates to debate and explore solutions to pressing global governance and cooperation challenges, with Eden University at the centre of hosting and academic coordination.

Eden University Barlastone Hostels Near Completion, Set to Be Operational Next Year January

State-of-the-art Eden University hostels are set to open by January 2027.

Eden University Senior Management led by the Vice Chancellor, Dr. Alvert N. Ng'andu, together with Chief Operating Officer, Mr.Zhunga Simbwalanga have toured some of the Institution’s upcoming projects to assess progress.

During the tour, the team visited the construction site of the new University hostels.

Once completed, the infrastructure will cater for both male and female students. The hostels will feature both communal and self-contained rooms.

Today, we proudly celebrate Africa Freedom Day — a reminder of our unity, rich cultural heritage, diversity, and our collective hope for a better future across the continent. As one community, we keep learning, growing, and building connections beyond borders.
