SETA FOUNDATION COLLEGE achieved a near 100% pass rate with
15 students posting Distunctions in all subjects that included practicals.
SETA FOUNDATION is one of Zimbabwe’s leading independent Technical Colleges, located in the 3rd Floor of the affable Causeway Building in Harare.
Established in 2007, it has a reputation for striking a balance between high theory teaching standards and a strong industrial applications in its practical components of the courses offered. Their training model is rooted in Ubuntu values. At least 99% of their graduates are gainfully employed at home and abroad.
These values include humility, simplicity, and modesty, a community spirit, love of work, presence and “In the Way of industry”. Guided by the visionary captains of industry at Mukonitronics, a tech manufacturing company since 1990, trainees are trained to horn their skills to satisfy the demands of industry, mining, agriculture, manufacturing and deployment of renewable energy technologies.
The college is situated on the 3rd floor of the Causeway Building close to Causeway Post Office in Harare and caters to young men and women whose visions go far beyond the nose.
By 2010, it was training techno-crats now running the show at British Electricity International, Australia and New Zealand Power, Eskom, ZESA, BHP Minerals and more. Trainees are required to design projects for assessment with a clear industrial application which can also be commercialised.
In 2016, SETA moved to its current campus on the 3rd Floor of the Causeway Building from Unit 4 Kelvin Corner in Graniteside Industrial sites Harare as a convenience and expansion strategy. Soon the college plans to move to its own purpose built site, to enable it to offer more diversified courses including electric vehicle technologies.
SETA will soon expand its footprint to other regions in Zimbabwe and Southern Africa in line with its vision and mission of offering world-class facilities to support the development and growth of its learners.
SETA Trainees are highly competitive in power generation, transmission, distribution, industrial control, PLCs, variable frequency drives, switch mode power supplies, inverter design, repairs and servicing as well as solar systems installations.
Historically, SETA has scooped awards, as the Best Technical College in practical skills transfer, Best performance in the percentage of students who got jobs after training and they have a strong tradition in entrepreneurship development.
Class sizes are kept small owing to the personalised attention required for complex subjects, such as mathematics, engineering design, application of materials, often with as few as 15 students, to allow for individualised attention.
Notable alumnis include Engineers Wellington Mangwanda, Stan Nhevera, Stembiso Ncube who now form part of the leadership teams are BEI, New Zealand Power, and Eskom for several years now.
“The strength of the Class of 2025 is highlighted in the rare achievement of a Gold Trophy in applied design. The trainees, working as a Team deigned an 98% efficient solar power pure sine wave inverter with MPPT controller for rural and farming use in offgrid communities.
SETA's overall distinction rates are among the top achievers and builds on a strong industrial legacy at Mukonitronics, the holding company.
Notably, the college achieved a distinction rate of more than 40% in the Hexco courses and 51% distinction rate in CG,
These subjects include Engineering Design, Applied Engineering Mathematics Information Technology (IT), Life Sciences, Applied Business, Variable Frequency Drives, Inverters, Safety and Programlable Logic Controllers.
This range of subjects is indicative of the diversity of subjects that the trainees have the opportunity to take and excel in. Some are purely off standard curriculum and designed to equip the learners with skills they can leverage on and distance themselves from the common certificate issuing colleges found everywhere today.
The lecturers and mentors are veterans of industry. They work tirelessly to help these young men and women reach their full potential.
“Their commitment and passion for education, as well as their personal investment in each of these young women and men’s lives, are part of the mission of Mukonitronics' corporate social investment.” said Eng Lovemore Mukono Group CEO and Founding Trustee of the SETA FOUNDATION.
